I know, I’ve said I was going to redo the guest bedroom for over a year now, but I really, really am going to do it. I’ve been pulling together things for a while, and now that my son has his things out of the room, I am going to paint and get started. I want to do a hunt theme in the room. I have some antique furniture pieces that I will be using, and I have been collecting equestrian accessories for a while. So, maybe it will come together. The antique furniture is totally unconventional for a bedroom, but they are pieces that I have, so I am going to try and make them work.
I love this painting, so it will be used as a focal point in the room. My last house was huge with really high ceilings so all of my art is enormous, this painting is 45″ tall x 54″ wide. This will definitely make a statement.
This is the comforter that I found at GW, new in the bag several months ago. I love the brown/tan and red colors. Hopefully it will work with my theme. It is very similar to a Ralph Lauren set that I saw that used houndstooth as the accessory pieces. The RL set was super expensive, but mine was only $10 on half off day.It is for a full size bed and that is what I am using since this room is so small.
See how thick it is and I love the texture of the fabric.
I found this houndstooth fabric that I think will look great for the dust ruffle and shams.
This is the fabric I used for the familyroom drapes and I have enough to make drapes for this room. I think it will go well with the other two fabrics.
The walls will be a very soft beige color. Since this is such a small room I am trying to keep the background of everything very soft and neutral with the accent colors being the painting, bed comforter and other accessories.
Well, I have a change already. While I was out today I made the trek over to “Home Fabrics”, my favorite discount fabric store ever. In their clearance section I found a great plaid that I took a chance on and hoped it would work with the spread. It was only $3 a yd. versus $12.95 yd for the houndstooth, For that much difference in price, I just had to make a change in plans. (Sorry for the glare, I had to turn on the overhead light, all the lamps have been taken out of the room.)
I am still going to order some of the herringbone for the shams or pillows, but I think the plaid is going to be great for the dustruffle.
Ok, however this turns out, this is what I am starting with and I am determined to get this room done.
So, how do you pull a room together. Do you start with a theme, a fabric, a picture or do you just wing it?
