Well, this has turned out to be a huge project for such a small little room. Finally all the sewing, painting and cleaning is done. So here is the big reveal. – – – – -( I just added the tiny check pillow as a last minute finishing touch.)
As you walk in the door this is the first thing you see, a Hoosier Cabinet. I told you I was using non-bedroom furniture and I definitely am. I have had this piece for nearly 50 yrs. It has been in many different homes, but this house has no place at all where it will fit, so I am making it work in the bedroom.
As I showed you in the last post, the other end table is a kitchen piece also. A work table with fold down leaves, silverware drawer and two tin curved flour bins. I know, kitchen pieces in the bedroom, but I am using what I have.
The comforter I found at Goodwill for $10 works great in the room. Brown, beige and just a touch of red. I am so glad I found the plaid for the dust ruffle. I didn’t want the red to be predominant, so by doing a pleated dust ruffle, I was able to put the red inside the pleat so just a little peaks out. I like the combination of the paisley and the plaid.
The beige and white stripe drapes match the paint color perfectly and blend into the wall, so the space appears seamless as much as possible.
I have decorated my Hoosier with some of my Equestrian finds that I have been accumulating. Since I am using the huge Hunt Scene painting instead of a headboard and as the focal point of the room, I wanted the Hoosier to continue the theme.
My toy riding Horse looks great on the top.
You have seen the hat, figurines and other items on the shelves. They were previously in the familyroom bookcase.
The work surface of the Hoosier pulls out to be twice the size you see here. I am using an old piece of leather that has a stenciled Texas Star on it, my Dalmation dog, a bowl and a tin can lamp.
Behind those two large doors you can see the flour sifter and the wood bean box. They always thought of everything when they made these pieces. There is also two pull out cutting boards, a big storage area underneath with shelf and door storage, plus the bottom of the three drawers is tin lined.
My little Dalmation doggie is so cute. It’s another of my GW finds that I think is a real treasure.
The end table on the other side of the bed holds my dog lamp that I borrowed from the familyroom, an antique crank phone, an antique alphabet plate and a crystal clock from GW. I hung one of my antique Regulator clocks on the wall.
I love that phone, it weighs a ton, but it is so fun.
These old clocks are so fun and they put so much detail into them. Even the pendulum is fancy.
I added one little thing since the first pictures. I decided not to try and make shams, just leave the bedding simple and uncluttered. However, I did have this one checked pillow that I thought looked good.
I think it dresses the bed just a touch.
Totally a departure from the rest of my house, but I think it will be a comfortable room for my guests., so that is what really matters. It’s come a long way from being storage for me and a ton of my son’s things. Plus, it’s fun to see something totally different, don’t you think? Thank you guys for cheering me on through out this whole ordeal. I promise to not show this room again for a while. Just a couple of tutorials on the drapes and dust ruffle are coming.
