Show Us Your Life – Bathrooms

Our home is 6 years old and definitely a builder basic, so I have tried to “up-grade” the basic cabinets and fixtures with the camouflage of accessories.

You enter the master bath through a large doorway in the bedroom.

First thing was to get rid of the “hollywood” lights and add new fixtures.  I found these on sale for $19.99 each, only catch is they were painted to look like a leopard stripe.  Brand new and so ugly.  I bought them because the style was good,  the shades were really pretty and they were well made and good quality, just ugly.  (Wonder what in the world the mfg. was thinking anyway.)   Then I painted them Oil Rubbed Bronze and they were fabulous.

I added the accordion mirror so I could see up close to do my makeup.  It has a magnifying mirror that I find I use more and more.  (Just like me the eyes are getting old)

As you enter the bathroom from the bedroom, you see the double sinks.  This is not a very large bathroom, so I chose to leave the one big mirror since it gives the room a much more spacious appearance..  On the to-do list is to frame it.  The angled door you see goes into the water closet and the door on the left goes into a large walk-in closet.

We have the standard double sinks, tub and shower.

No jets, but it is a nice soaker tub and the shower is large enough to be really comfortable.

We get wonderful natural light from the big window.  I love a bright bathroom and this one is always filled with sunshine.

I didn’t want to take up a lot of counter space, but a small vignette is reflected in the mirror and gives the appearance of being bigger than it really is.  I think it helps to make the space look a little more “grand”.

The rest of the counter accessories were chosen for their “frenchy” appearance, but are all useful and necessary every day items.  I coordinated the towels with the camel and black color scheme of the room.

The water closet has a couple of accessories to give it some interest also.

This is an antique medicine cabinet that I’ve had for years.  It holds extra rolls of toilet paper, air freshener and wipes.

The painting carries out the colors of the bedroom.

Very workable space and a bright and cheery one to bath and get dressed in.

The hall bath is painted a soft camel color also.  I made a shower curtain out of a dramatic tropical print outdoor fabric and hung it from the ceiling for extra drama.  It is tied back and a tall liner is on a second rod behind it.  I replaced the flat builder mirror with one I found at Ross.  The light fixture was replaced with another one in Oil Rubbed Bronze.  (Another great find on sale for $19.99)

I found a fabulous nylon rug that has the look of sisal.  I thought it was perfect for my tropical theme.

A small bathroom, but also very functional and quite comfortable.  All of the accessories are done in ORB and the paintings have a tropical theme to tie into the curtain.

Two very builder basic bathrooms, but both work and a few changes in accessories gave them a more updated look.
