Cleaning & Organizing the China Cabinet

I love my china cabinet, but it can get to be a real mess really fast.  I just have too much stuff.  I try to purge, but most everything in it belonged to either my mom or my mother-in-law, so they are very precious to me.  Then I also have this addiction of finding fabulous silver at Goodwill and I just can’t seem to pass it up when it is so pretty and so cheap.
This is a picture of what a mess I had going.

I took everything out and couldn’t believe I have so much stuff in there.

This is totally unreal, no wonder it is such a mess.

Ok, everything out and all the shelves and the mirror on the back all clean and sparkly.

Nothing is going back in except silver and crystal.  The first two shelves look so much better.  Figuring out how to display my silver and crystal in an attractive manner is always a challenge.

The next two, at least I can see what I have now.

The bottom shelf.  I had 8 round silver trays that I can use as chargers, so I put them in with my other chargers and that saved a lot of room.

Still super full, but so much better and everything is all clean and shiny.

I have the large tray with the coffee and tea service on the buffet, but I can put it in by just rearranging a couple of the trays whenever I change up the buffet vignette.

This is a big job every time I pull it all out and clean so I always put it off for a long time.  Do you have a big job that you put off too?

I bought my china cabinet years ago from a private party. It was made in England in 1860. It has all of it’s original pressed glass and mirrors and is a true family treasure. Thanks for asking. Marty
