Turn Tacky Into Gold

I love to decorate with little figurines and especially dog figurines, but finding some really great ones is not always easy. I found these three at GW (goodwill) for 99c each, but they really are a little tacky.

I want something with a little bling and sparkle. So how about some gold spray paint.

Ok, these don’t look really cute yet, they are a little too goldy, but after they are aged a little bit with some stain, they might be better. These two are the ones that need to be toned down a bit. I am using Min-Wax walnut stain, just flow a little on and then pat some of it off.

Big difference, see not nearly as shiny and some of the detail and character shows up better on the ears and body. Now to do the big dog.

He looks better too. I am going to do a little highlighting with rub’in buff when this is dry. I want to enhance a little bling in a few spots.

All done, now doesn’t he look better, definitely not like 99c anymore.

A nice accessory to add to the tray on the coffee table.

Isn’t he precious now. He looks like real brass and definitely more expensive.

Great on the bookcase to add a little more bling.

See how he adds some extra shine. Love it.

Look how fabulous this big guy turned out. He makes quite the statement.

He helps spark up this corner of the shelf in the bookcase.

Super fun and easy projects. I didn’t use any rub’n buff after all. When the stain dried, they looked fabulous, so I just left them alone. If you have a tacky accessory, why not spray it gold.
