I totally love my new lamp, but finding the right shade was really important and finding the right place for him was the next thing. I finally have both, plus a little repair makes him perfect.
Remember my bronze man and how dapper he is? My latest $15 goodwill find.
When I brought him home I placed him on an end table by the sofa and borrowed the shade off the lamp that was there. Way too big for him, but I just had to play and see how he was going to look. He’s a little too tall and skinny for this table, but he is absolutely gorgeous.
I decided I would rather have him on my desk. I tried quite a few different shades that I had when he was moved over, but none of them were right.
This rectangular one from my bedroom lamp would work as far as shape is concerned.
However, I would have to really watch the size and I would need a shorter harp so the shade isn’t too high above his head.
This is one I had in the storage closet, I am trying everything just to see what works and what doesn’t.
The style of this shade is all wrong, but the size is perfect, so now I know what to look for. This shade is 12″ tall and 14″ across the bottom. This is a good size.
I always check at Ross for lampshades. Sometimes they have just the perfect thing. TA-DA, burlap and the perfect size and shape. How lucky is that and only $7.99. Quite the bargain. A burlap drum shade that is 12″ tall and 14″ across the bottom. Couldn’t be better.
Now for the repair – You can see he is holding a ball in one hand and a stick in the other, but I couldn’t figure out the stick. Like some of you, I finally decided that he was dressed for golf and part of his golf club was missing. I guess it broke off and maybe that’s why he wound up in goodwill.
So I thought I could fix that. I went to the party supply store and found some plastic golf club favors.
After a little carving, gluing and paint, you’d never know it had been broken off.
He’s a great size for my desk area and adds tons of character, plus now he has his club.
The right shade and a little repair definitely made him perfect.
Have you found any new treasures lately ? How do you shop for shades? I usually take a lamp with me so I can try the shades, however this time just trying the ones I had at home let me find the right size.
