Pulling It All Together-The Cluttered Corkboard Kitchen

Today we have Tina from Cluttered CorkBoard.  You know how some kitchens just say come in, sit down have a cup of coffee and enjoy, I think that is exactly what Tina has done with her wonderful kitchen.  It is so warm and inviting, the perfect spot for the whole family to gather.

First of all, a big Thank you to Marty for having me over today.
It is certainly an honor to be here sharing a part of my home with you.

Next up let me say Hello…
My name is Tina, and I blog over at Cluttered CorkBoard.  A blog
about budget friendly DIY projects, Thrifty finds, Home Décor,
and Organization.
Of course there are some occasional ramblings involved as well. :o)

Today I would like to introduce my kitchen.
The kitchen is centrally located in our home, and a room that we spend
quite a bit of time together in as a family.

On one side of the room we have an abundance of furniture ya might say…

I actually came across this dining room set by accident while searching for a
hutch on craigslist.
We don’t have a lot of storage in our kitchen, or a designated pantry for that
matter… so I had been on the lookout for a dining room hutch for extra storage
for quite some time.

Well, I had just about given up, and decided to look for a buffet or large dresser
to DIY instead.   So I changed my keyword from ‘hutch’ in the search box,
and that’s when I came across this beautiful Ethan Allen set.
I contacted the seller to see if it was still available, and it was. Yay!

Initially we were going to just buy the hutch. However, it was such a great deal,
and such a beautiful set, that we changed our minds.
It was ours for less than $200.00.

We weren’t for sure if it would all fit in our kitchen, but thankfully it did.
And it has worked out perfectly for us.

The hutch holds the extra table linens, large mixing bowls, mason jars etc.
and the sideboard is our ‘pantry’ storage.  Together these pieces added a lot
of much needed storage.

Of course they also display some fun and decorative pieces as well.
Like my Chess/Checkerboard, a floral arrangement that I simply
placed in a soap dispenser to use as a vase, and I have to mention that tiny
tricycle that I picked up at a flea market for a couple dollars.
How cute is that? :0)

The other side of our kitchen has quite a bit of function to it as well..  and these cabinets
hold all the regular items… from dishes, to bakeware, to small appliances, to food items.

As you can see, we have a lot of wood tone going on… so to give it a little more color
I chose to add in shades of peacock blue, as well as touches of burgundy. They coordinate
really well with the two main shades, which are: Cinnamon stick (deeper orange shade),

and Warm Caramel.

By adding in the pops of color here and there, like making a simple Vinyl Decal

to go on my kitchenaid mixer, adding Placemats that I made from shelf liner, and

painting my shoe storage that is located near the back door…

it really adds a lot of interest, and tends to draw your eyes around the room.

While storage wasn’t exactly ideal in this room, the furniture pieces have

definitely made a big difference.

However, I also think keeping things organized is important.

So I try to keep like items with like items, and to minimize any wasted space.
I recently Organized my Kitchen Spices, and I ended up building risers for my
Spice rack using a dowel rod that cost less than $2.00, and it has worked out
great.   Also by utilizing the cabinet door’s interior space for hanging the oven
mitts, it freed up some much needed drawer space elsewhere.

Sometimes the small details can make such a difference in how a room looks, but also
the functionality of it. (and it doesn’t have to break the budget to do it) :o)

I hope you enjoyed seeing my kitchen today, and if you’d like to check out another one of my rooms,
I recently just gave my Craft Room a makeover.
