How To Update A Traditional Room With Color & Pattern

A Whole New Look for $30.

Now you all know that I love my traditional decor and sometimes I really like a neutral space, however there are times when I like something bold too.  I thought things were starting to look a little too traditional and could use some sprucing up a bit.   Looking around I discovered several colors and patterns were constantly repeated in more modern spaces.  So, I added some to my room and I love the way it turned out.

Black and white is really popular, but I decided to add a little yellow to my mix too.   Chevrons, geometric and of course sequins.  Gotta’ have a little bling.

Everything else stayed the same, I just added a couple of black accessories and called it good.

I’ve been trying to like the skirted table you see in the above picture in front of the window, but I really, really like the little chest best.  I have dark wood that I love, and since the dining area is part of this room – – –

the skirted table adds more light and color to this side of the room.

I think it balances the dark wood on each end of the room with the white sofa and pillows in the middle.

Just as an update – – – I decided that I love the crystals on the chandy just the way they are and I am going to leave well enough alone.  If you missed that post you can catch up here

Either way works, chest or table, right now I am loving it this way and I am also loving the black and white.

These are all pillow covers from Hobby Lobby.  Five new pillows for $30.

So, what do you think?  How do you update a room?
