Show Off & Inspire-Right Up My Alley

I have the neatest guest today for my Show Off & Inspire feature.  I would love for you to meet Tracy from Right Up My Alley.  Isn’t she adorable and she is the mother of 4 darling daughters.  I know you are going to love her tour today, she and her hubby have been doing tons of diy projects to their new home.  I am so impressed with his woodworking skills and her design sense.  I love, love, love the bookcases he made for their library (pay attention to the lights too, and her oldest daughter’s bedroom is totally amazing (pay attention the headboard and bedding Tracy made).  There is so much to see, so settle in and enjoy.

I’m so glad I could be over here on Marty’s beautiful and inspiring blog. She is so kind and full of creativity! I was flattered she asked me to feature my home. Thanks for having me.

I’m Tracy, the blogger behind  Right Up My Alley. I started blogging as a way to capture design inspirations and projects that I do in our home. I’m a stay at home mom of four girls and I’m married to my sweetheart of 14 years. We make a good team since I love to decorate and he knows a lot about woodworking. We moved into our home a year ago so there are many things to still work on but I think it’s coming along. I have a love for interior design, art, DIY projects, antiques, oh and chocolate! We live in the Frederick area of Maryland. Here are some of the rooms that I’ve worked on. Now on with a tour!

When you come into our home we have a library room that my hubby and I built. I’m still working on more furniture in here but it’s great to have a place to store all our books, games and music.

Two of our daughters are taking piano lessons and playing on my late grandmother’s piano, which is really special. Above the piano I wanted a larger scale art piece, but it was so expensive so I framed botanical prints from a book in a grid system.

In the dining room we put up board and batten for the walls to have some interest.  Most of our furniture comes from thrift stores, yard sales or things we’ve made and painted.

One of my favorite pieces of furniture is this console table my hubby made. Now I just need to see if I can convince him to make a farm table for us.

In our family room I took a blonde laminated wood entertainment center and painted it creamy white (we were thinking of getting rid of it). Painting this piece gave me the confidence to paint other pieces of furniture and it certainly made me decide to keep it for a long time. This I’ve learned… paint makes a huge difference!

I recently created a gallery wall in our family room above a desk. The ferns and agates art are two crafts I made that create some beauty and meaning on our walls.

On the main level I took a closet and turned it into a craft space. I wallpapered the back wall using wrapping paper. I love this feminine small space which is also really handy for holding all those ribbons, papers, fabrics, etc.

Sometimes the hubs and I make furniture like this knock-off design console table we made for the Creating With The Stars Contest. Oh that fretwork and coral!

Off our kitchen we made this hutch from a junky thrift store base and built shelves above it.

Upstairs, our daughter’s bedrooms have been coming together. In our oldest daughter’s room we made this tall curvy headboard. I love how the geometric coral looks with the navy stripes in here. I also made the bedding look a bit more interesting by taking an inexpensive IKEA duvet and adding ribbon trim.

In daughter #2 room I painted a thrift store bed ($10) and a put a screen behind her bed along with making a silhouette profile of her.

In our twins room we made a large frame above their dresser. I love how unique it looks and how it fills a large area.

Thanks for having me over here Marty! You are always welcome to stop by Right Up My Alley to see more projects and inspirations. I would love to hear from you! Hope you all have a great summer!

Isn’t their home fabulous and full of inspiration.  I knew you would love it and get all kinds of ideas for your own home.  I would totally copy that craft closet if I had a spare closet.  Thanks so much Tracy for letting me show you off and brag a little about you.  I loved having you here.

Now of you don’t follow her blog, then you really need to run over and click that follow button, she always has something new going on and you really don’t want to miss any of it.
