How To – Design A Special Custom Looking Pillow

As you all know, I change my pillows in my rooms about every two minutes.  Well not really, but it seems like I do.  I love to sew up some of the pretty fabrics that I see and it’s so fun to see how I can change the look of my rooms with just a few fabric changes.

I showed you some wonderful fabric that I found at the beginning of the year.  I finally got around to sewing a little.   I decided to start with a pillow out of the black/metallic gold dot.  I love this fabric.

I also had a small piece of a sheer gold metallic left over from a previous project, so I decided to use that to make the cording.  This added a little extra bling and character to the pillow.

The gold cording is subtle but does make the pillow stand out.  I found this gold dot fabric at Fabric.com.

Pretty enough on it’s own, but I think it could be better.

I had been wanting to use a monogram on a pillow for a while, so when I found these on etsy .  I just had to order one large enough for the center of the pillow.  It came with really easy to follow iron on instructions.

That definitely gives this pillow character.

One thing to consider when you are making or buying pillows for your furniture is the size of the pillow.  I often see pillows that are too small or too big used and it throws the whole balance off.  My furniture is more on the small size so I use 18 inch pillows most of the time.  I can also use 20 inch and it still works, however using much larger seems to over power my furniture. I see some using the smaller 12 or 14 inch pillows.  One as an accent works great, but if that is all you use, then it looks out of balance to most furniture.  If you are using smaller ones, mix them with a couple of larger ones to balance the size out.   Look at how tall my pillows are in relation to the back of my sofa.  You want them to be approx. the same, not way bigger and taller or way smaller.  Try different sizes and see how they work on your furniture.

If you missed it, I also made a couple of new table runners out of some of my new fabric.  You can see them here.

You can still link up to Inspire Me.  So much to see so check a few things out.
