Family Room Reveal

I love how light and bright the family room is now with the new white paint.  This room was white before, but it was a sort of yellow white.   I chose Reliable White by Sherwin Williams and it is a gorgeous warm white.  No yellow, pink, or grey undertones.  Just a really clear soft white.  This photo is taken standing next to the kitchen island and shows how the kitchen, family room and breakfast area are all one space.

Do you remember what it looked like before?

I really enjoyed the check drapes for a while, but I was delighted to be able to give them to my son for his house remodel.  They are perfect there.  I was also really ready to get rid of the wood blinds.  They collect so much dust and they were beyond one more cleaning.  Time to go.

One thing that bothered me was how the buider used shorter windows in this room.  See all that wall space above the window.  I wanted that covered, so hanging the shades outside the frame and higher gives the room balance.

Remember when I showed you these roman shades I found on clearance at Lowes back in November.    I got all 7 of them for $28.  Now that is what I call a real bargain.

The shades are a grass cloth type fabric and lined with a semi sheer cream color.  The drapes are a makeover.

Remember these from the living room.  I just removed the valance at the top.

They look like a totally different pair and the shades hung high under the rods looks so much better.  Now the windows look in proportion to the height of the ceiling.

The breakfast area window looks so much better too.

I didn’t add the gallery back to this wall.  I like the idea of just the mirror for now.  I may add sconces later, I just need to live with this for a while.

I didn’t totally reinvent the wheel, the pillows and coffee table stayed the same.

I did shuffle the end tables around.  I put the candle table next to my chair on this side of the sofa and added a small vignette.

I also moved the gate leg drop leaf table under the window between the two chairs on this wall.  I love the larger size here and there’s room for another fun vignette.

So what do you think?  Now when I get the hardwood floors installed, it will look totally different and so nice and fresh.

I have a lot more painting to do.  Living room, dining area and hall are next.  How about you, are you tackling any room makeovers?
