Repurposing Vintage Architectural Pieces

I am so thrilled to have Kris at Junk Chic Cottage here today.  This lady can take a piece of “nothing” and turn it into “something” better than anyone I know.  She is totally amazing.   If you don’t already know her you are going to be in for a real treat.  She is one of the most gracious and talented ladies in all of blogland.

Hi Everyone.  I am Kris and blog over at Junk Chic Cottage.

I am honored and excited to be here doing this guest post for Marty.

A big part of my cottage home decor comes from repurposing old vintage architectural pieces into my home.

If something is vintage, rusty, chippy and has lots of history and character you will find me repurposing it into my home.

Today I thought it would be fun to share a few of the old pieces that I have re loved into my decor.

This is the front of my office area.  I have repurposed many old chippy pieces into my creative space.  I put the old porch posts up with an old door piece for a header over my office window.  My profession is registered nurse so when I found this old nurse’s office sign at a flea market I knew I had to have this in my office.

You can see the old porch posts and piece of old door used to frame out my office window.

This is an old kitchen cabinet from a 100 year old farm house tear down.  Makes for a great storage cabinet in my office.  It was too chippy and beautiful to be thrown into a dumpster as they torn down the home.
Used some old locker bins for magazine storage in this cabinet.
These old french doors became a divider wall to separate my office from the dining room.  I live in a small downsized home and every inch of space in this house I utilize.  This area at the back of my dining room was a storage closet at one time.  Now it makes for a perfect office space.

Vintage, chippy windows and doors are my passion.  I love the history and character they have and incorporate them into my decor whenever possible.

My husband was able to take these old vintage cottage doors and make headboards out of them for our master bedroom and guest room.
A little crown molding and three vintage doors and you have yourself a great headboard.
Guest Room Head Board
Yep, gives sweet character to the bed.
Give me a sweet chippy door and a wall and I will unite them.  There is just something so sweet and special about old doors.  Love the history behind this door.  It was from an old lake cottage.  I just think of all the fun summers at the lake for the families that passed through this old door.
I recently repurposed my old china cabinet with these three old windows I had.  They made for great new doors for my re love of this cabinet.
Old unique shutters can make for a nice focal point to your decor.  Put a chippy arched window in the middle of them and you have yourself a pretty wall feature.
I framed out this guest room window with old chippy shutters.  Just love the texture and character they give to the room.

Gates are another fun way to add some uniqueness to your decor.
This one made for a great headboard in my smaller guest room.
Old chippy gates make for great plant hangers in the garden too.

Old cabinet doors hang in the garden along with two french doors behind my lounge chair for some outdoor decor.  After summer last year I brought in those french doors and attached them to my entry into the dining room.  I love to keep inventing new uses for these old pieces.
The doors after summer were a great addition to my entry into the dining room.

Yep give me an old window and I will hang a plant on it out in the garden.
An old door made into a bench.  Above the bench I took an old twin headboard and made this chalk board hanger.  I love taking old things and re loving them into new and purposeful items.
Using old vintage door knobs as dresser pulls gives this dresser some fun character.  I brought in a piece of old garden fence to hang on the wall above my dresser.

An old door can make for a fun focal point on a wall.
This old cottage door with the mail slot made for a great back drop to my bathroom sink.   I just added a mirror to where the window of this door was originally.

An old horse barn door can make a great decor piece around chippy old plates.

Also to hang a sweet angel on at Christmas.

This was fun to share some of my use of old vintage pieces I have collected and given new life in my home decor.   I would love for you to stop by and visit my blog.  Thank you Marty for having me here today.
