Spring ORC – Master Bedroom Closet Makeover

I am one week late to the party, but I am happily joining

Linda @ Calling It Home

for her ORC series.

Our master bedroom closet is in desperate need of a makeover and some organization.  I thought if I joined this challenge it would push me to get this room done.

As you walk in this is what you see.  There are double rods on the right that my hubby uses and straight ahead are double rods that I use.  This is an L shapped space, so to the left is the worst space of all.

As you can see, hubby’s side and those wire baskets are as bad as my stuff.

GOTTA GO.

This is what is to the left of the double rods you see in the above pic.  A messy space for dresses and taller hanging clothes.

Since there are no drawers, we put this basket unit here to hold socks, tees and undies.  Useful, but not really pretty.

The worst part of all is this house has the smallest linen closet in history, so all of our extra blankets and such are on the shelf above the long clothes hanging rod.  I keep waiting for all of this to tumble down on me any minute.

I have 5 more weeks to complete this project, and I think I will need every minute of it.  To start with, a lot of purging is needed and then some pretty organization.  So far on my list I have ordered 6 pretty storage boxes, a shoe organizer and a hanging shelf unit.

I found 3 of these fabulous bins at Ross, perfect to store tons of stuff.

Tan & Black Hangers and those fabrics are going to be some of the wow.

My color scheme is tan/black/white with touches of gold gild.

Since this is a cosmetic makeover not a gut job, I am trying to make what we have as functional as possible, and I want to add a little glam at the same time too.  I’m working with builder basic – no fancy custom organizers.

Here is my plan-

1. add more shelving

2.   paint

3. add wood shoe rack for hubby

4. rearrange hanging space

5. possibly replace carpet with wood floors

6.  add decorative accessories and hooks for purses.

I am trying to do all of this on a budget of no more than $300.  This is not a gut job, just some cosmetic changes and hopefully utitlize what we have better.   Wish me luck.
