A really easy way to bring color to a room is with a round table covered in a pretty tablecloth. It serves two purposes –
1. It is a really inexpensive way to add an end table to any space and – you can buy these rounds at the lumber yard and just add simple legs. You can make it any size you want or need.
2. You can bring in some color, pattern and texture with the cloth cover.
You can use a solid fabric and dress it up with fringe – –
Or it can be really taylored and color banded – –
This one is a combination of both – –
Or it can add tons of character and interest with a bold fabric.
I use one in my living room. I wanted to bring more light to this room since I have a lot of dark wood furniture, so a skirted table helps continue the white appearance of the sofa and chair and also blends the table into the wall. Great way to trick the eye into thinking there is more space in a small room.
I thought it was time for a new table cover with just a hint of pattern and color for my fall decor. As I showed you, I found this great fabric on sale for $2 yd. It will take 4 1/2 yds to make my cloth – that’s $10 for a whole new look.
To find out the finished size you will need, measure the top of your table – mine is 24″
then measure how far it is from the floor to the top of the table – mine is 26″
So I will need a table cloth that will be 26 x 2 = 52 + 24 = 76 ” round finished.
1. lay your fabric out and cut in half (even if you don’t sew, there are only 2 seams and a hem to make the tablecloth, so you can use fabric glue)
2. then take 1/2 and cut it in half length-wise
3. trim off the selvage on all sides.
4. match up the pattern of one of your strips with the wide piece of fabric.
5. sew the two together. (or use fabric glue, being careful to match the pattern)
6. do the same with the other strip – now you will have one big square.
7. Press the seams flat – now you are ready to cut your circle out. There are all kinds of tutorial on how to make a round cloth and cut a circle – since I already have a cloth that is the right size, I am just going to use it as a template. I will cut my circle 1 1/2″ larger so I can fold under a double 3/4″ hem.
When it is all cut out, this is all that’s left of your huge square.
TA-DA – All Done.
The white background is a good compliment to my sofa and the pattern looks great with the wall color.
There’s just enough design and color to be interesting, but it doesn’t scream “look at me”.
Do you use a skirted table in your home?

Thanks very much for post post and tutorial. I’m an inexperienced seamstress, but with the way you broke this down, I think it will be easy for me to make.
Thank you! Your fabric is perfect for the space!
