Kitchen Vignettes & A Big Pot Of Soup

I am still trying to lose a few pounds and get back in shape, so yesterday morning first thing I went to the gym.

I joined Curves and I like their workout,

plus since there are a lot of women my own age, I don’t feel intimidated.

When I got home I felt extra energized.

I decided it was time to clean the kitchen counters really good,

which usually means creating some  new vignettes.

Playing house is so fun.

Since the kitchen joins the familyroom, my favorite horse seemed like the perfect thing for the island.

I love all the different colors and textures on him,

                                            he’s just full of character.

I moved a few things around in the corner too.

Love my antique malt mixer.  This is from the drug store soda fountain that my parents owned when I was about 10.  Tons of memories for me and for my children.

Faux sweets are super fun too and they don’t add any calories. haha

Now that everything is clean, time to cook up something good.

Fabulous 10 Bean & Ham Soup.

                                                 Ten Bean & Ham Soup

3 cups dry 10 bean soup mix – ( I get mine from Sprouts in their bulk dept.)
2 carrots diced
1 1/2 onions diced
3  stalks celery diced
1 tbl. minced garlic
1tbl. ground pepper
1 ham hock
salt to taste

Cover with about 1 1/2 inch of water and bring to a boil.  Lower heat and simmer 3 to 5 hours until beans are tender.  (Check often to make sure you still have plenty of water.  As the beans cook and absorb the water, you will need to add more. Should be soupy, not dry)  When beans are done, remove ham from the hock, dice and mix in soup.

Serve with hot bread for a fabulous 1 dish meal.
