So far I am loving the kitchen makeover. So light and bright and totally different. Sometimes we just need different.
See what I mean. Totally different from before. Now nothing wrong with this, and I loved it for years, just time for a change. Time to get rid of the brown and purge a few accdessories.
If you’re new here, this is what it looked like before the first makeover. You can see how we redid the cabinets, added the granite, new sinks and hardware here. When I said builder basic when we moved in I wasn’t kidding.
Ok, now onto the second makeover and where we are now. – —
Once I started with the primer, it was amazing at the difference. Night and day for sure. This was the beginning of phase one. Still to come, hardwood floors, black back counters and new appliances.
My guy that is going to install the floors said I should wait until they remove all the floor tile from the kitchen before I paint the island black. He said it would be a wasted effort since there would be such a mess and the paint would probably get really messed up anyway.
Since I am on hold for a little bit waiting on the floors, it was time to accessorize and make this a working kitchen again.
I started with some new vignettes on top of the cabinets, but leaving them really simple. Purging was the name of the game here. I love my copper weathervane, so he went back on top of the rangehood cabinet. Front and center.
On the side cabinets I used some restraint also. A couple of sculpted wheat stalks, demijohn, my dad’s old tool box and my cute new horse. (You know I had to have a horse to go with my horse painting in the adjoining family room.)
Over the fridge I used my WW11 Ammo basket, a couple of french breadboards and my Amish rooster.
A simple wine display on top of the fridge.
To the left of the range I put a few essentials and my fabulous cake cloche.
It is filled with the most yummy faux goodies. So much better for my waistline than the real thing.
The right side has a few more cooking essentials.
A butter slab holds my oils and grinders and my DIY utensil holder keeps all those essential tools handy.
This corner is purely for play. I like to have something fun to look at. An old rolling pin and another french breadboard are highlighted in the basket. Some bread in the cloche always looks good. (I love bread – I need to buy some that’s real)
At this corner I have my little $1 TV from goodwill that I love to watch while I am cooking and my malt mixer and candy scale. These two were in my parents soda fountain when I was a little girl. My children and grands all love to have a malt when they come over.
For now it is back in working order and I can cook again.
I am anxious to get the rest of the makeover going, but patience is the game at this point. Not my strong suit, but at least I can see the vision starting to take place.
