You guys are all so wonderful to help someone out with a little advice and input. I totally agree with the consensus that the island needed to be painted in a satin and not flat. So if I was going to repaint then I also changed the color. If it is suppossed to read black, then why don’t I paint it black.
I originally painted it SW Iron Ore which is a really dark charcoal in eggshell. It just looked flat and I really didn’t like any of it.
So this time I used SW Tricorn Black in satin and the difference is totally amazing. You can see how there is a little shine on the corbels, but in person there is a really slight sheen that looks really nice.
You guys also suggested that I need to recover the barstools to something lighter, so I placed a couple of napkins over them to get a perspective and you are totally right. While I was at it I added a little fruitwood stain that I had to the legs of the stools and I like them so much better. They don’t fade into the island so much.
Now to find the perfect fabric to recover the stools.
Some of you were confused as to whether I was going to do the backspash and counters in black on the back counters. I am only doing the counters in black, I have picked out a marble with gray and tan veins in it for the backsplash. I think it will look good with the black counter, cabinets and stainless appliances..
Also some of you couldn’t tell the color of the granite on the island and wondered if it would really go with the black for the back counters, so here is a picture. It has tons of cream, tan, brown and black in it.
