Wow, you guys all had tons of ideas about how to makeover the family room that had me stumped. I had already moved the furniture to every wall in this space and then you guys had a few more ideas, so I tried them all. Here is the final arrangement that I like.
Placing the sofa on this wall was the beginning of pulling this room together.
Remember, this is what it looked like when I asked you guys for help – – –
and here it is now. When we moved in I originally had the sofa on this wall, however I am so OCD that I was forcing it to be centered on the wall between the windows and then the two recliners to be centered on the window wall. Of course that didn’t work, the furniture was too big for that. Since I wanted the sofa on the wall so bad I decided to ignore the center of the wall and the window and just see if I could make it work.
I don’t really notice that it is off center. I think I was able to balance it out with the lampshades enough that it is ok. The sofa is all the way to the right window, but with the floor lamp and how I was able to arrange the shade, I think it looks fine. The chairs aren’t anywhere near centered either, but they look ok too. If you look really close you will see that the horse picture is not centered on the sofa either, everything is an illusion, but it works.
I moved the tv to the black console and put it on this wall and it works for better viewing for everyone. I moved the other leather chair up to the “Girl Cave” and brought down the wicker chair that was up there.
Since this console was open on the bottom, I got a piece of fiber board and spray painted it black so I could hide all the wires behind it. (I know we need a larger tv – this one is only 40″, but for now it has to stay) I do need some kind of gallery wall around it though, just not sure what.
In my mind the thing that makes the room is the cowhide rug. I gave the other one that was in here to my daughter and this just pops in here and I love it. I will find another one down the road for the living room.
We also need new end tables all around, white blinds to replace the brown ones, a white ceiling hugger fan and drapes. I just bought a fan so this one can go up in the loft in the “Girl Cave”.
( Remember, we are having a pool built, so this is a no spend, use what you have – make do makeover. Not sure what we will need when the pool is finished, but I want to be able to enjoy it, so I need to save my pennies for a couple of lounge chairs and some pool floaties and toys. )
At least this is already so much better. Thanks for all your help and input, you guys are the best and always come up with the greatest ideas.
