After they did the dig for the pool the other day I had about an inch of dust in the house. My fault, I kept opening the door to go out and see what they were doing and to take pictures, I wanted to document The Beginning of the Pool. Then I would just watch them through the screen, and boy did I let a ton of dust inside. It was time to clean this place up, so I thought I would do a “big” clean. I thought you might want to see my tips on How to Seal Granite/Marble & Polish Brass.
When the kitchen was finished in February, the granite people had sealed the granite at their shop when they finished the fabrication. They suggested that I seal it again in approximately 60 to 90 days. My contractor also only had me wipe the grout dust off of the marble backsplash, then he sealed the grout and said to let it cure for at least 30 days. So since we are at the 60 day mark and I have a really dirty family room and kitchen, I thought I would take care of these tasks.
First I dusted, vacuumed and then mopped all the floors. Boy that cleaned up a ton of dust, now I felt like I could wash down all the counters and cabinets and get ready to do some polishing and sealing.
When I washed down the counters I also took all my oils and the utensil holder off this brass tray and cleaned all the oil bottles. Time to wash and polish the brass. I love this piece, so perfect to hold all my necessary things near the stove top. I find that the easiest way to polish brass is with Bar Keepers Friend. It cleans and polishes things in just a jiffy. Then a nice rinse and dry with a soft towel and this piece is glowing.
I love to see it all clean and shiny.
Now it is time to seal and polish the granite. There are tons of sealers out there, but this is the one I have used for years. I buy it at Bed Bath & Beyond. Love this stuff. A light spray on clean granite and then use the microfiber cloth to rub it in. Then use a nice clean soft towel to buff it to a bright shine. All done. How easy is that.
Just look at that shine and it feels like glass when you rub your hand over it.
Look at the island sparkle too.
I did the same treatment to my marble backsplash and just look at it shine. I love it.
Now my whole kitchen is clean and polished. I am good to go.
I hope my tips for How To Seal Granite/Marble & Polish Brass shows you what an easy job this is to do. You will be amazed at how much easier they are to keep clean. too.
