You know how it is when you move into a new place, there is so much you have to do to just get settled, then if you were like us you immediately tore the kitchen apart and did a full remodel, just when that was done you had the pool installed. Now it is time to look at the front yard and make some plans for adding a little curb appeal. We also have a few areas around the pool that need some attention. First Things First!!! Let’s look at the front yard.
The movers sat that big pot by the front pillar when they moved us and it has just sat there ever since. Next to it are those bushes that have never been cared for and really need to be removed.
To refresh your memory this is a picture from the MLS Listing. Not sure when that was taken since the house was only on the market for a week before we bought it,but those grasses in the front were long gone before we saw the house. At any rate, this leaves a whole lot to be desired regarding curb appeal.
I have been searching for some ideas to create a nice walkway alongside the driveway and to do away with those bushes in front of the window and perhaps create a space for a small bench or something. Here are a few that I liked.
I like the idea of the mixed pavers and something curving around under our window.
Flagstone is pretty and this could work for us too.
This is another interesting idea.
I think I like the idea of the pavers best. So we took a trip to Floor & Decor to check things out. My local store is absolutely huge and their selection is too. That is where I got my new floors for our kitchen, baths and family room when we did our remodel. It is also where I found the flooring for our last house. This place is absolutely amazing.
When you walk in this place just almost overwhelms you, it is so big and their selection is huge.
Their selection is way beyond amazing. I found all kinds of things that we could use. Did you know they also have a whole entire selection of tile that is suitable for indoor or outdoor. Here are a couple that I liked. This brick pattern is gorgeous and – –
so is this one that looks like wood.
I wanted something that would tie in with the house in front and also the kooldeck around the pool, so I really fell in love with all the travertine.
Of course if it were a little bit fancier place I would definitely choose marble, it is amazing.
However travertine is my first love, so I think we will use that in the front and the back. So many colors to choose from too. I like that they all come in different sizes so you can create a pattern if you want to.
This one has a lot of veining showing.
This one has beveled edges that are nice too.
I really like the color of this one and the pattern they show is a favorite too.
This one would go with the color of the house so that would be good.
This is the area in the backyard that we need to work on. We goofed when we did the pool decking and didn’t have the decking tie into the patio on this side. Consequently we only have rocks to walk on and that isn’t good for bare feet. We need to so something with this area. (laying down carpet strips is really classy don’t you think? Makes a fabulous walkway.)
This is the area that we are going to work on first. This will also allow us to learn how to install the travertine properly so when we do the front yard it is done right. Plus it is a much bigger space.
Ok, the game plan is – – –
1. remove all the rock in this area.
2. move the bbq
3. level and add a border next to the AC unit and around the shrubs
4. lay down a bed of sand
5. create a fun design with the different sizes of travertine for a nice walkway all the way over to the pool decking and around the corner to the side yard.
Ok, time to get to work.
