I am by no means an expert or even have great photography skills. I just got my first DSL Camera a couple of years ago and since then I have been studying what makes a good picture. I have been fascinated with those fabulous glamour shots that just seem to draw you in. You know the ones that just give you a hint of the room and yet seem to tell a story.
We have so may bloggers that are famous for their photography skills, so I have been stalking them. I have also taken hundreds of shots trying to figure out what it is that makes these shots so interesting.
I think I have figured out a couple of things they all have in common.
Like this picture. You have a hint of how the room is decorated and a glimpse at a really inviting chair. This draws you in and you really want to see more of this room, however you have the feel and essence of this space with just this one simple picture. It tells a story.
In all of the photos that grab me, that is exactly what they do. They show you a tid-bit of a vignette or room and yet you get the sense and feel of the entire space.

Aniko @ Place Of My Taste. Here are a few examples that tell a story without showing the whole room.
Here is another one that I am learning to take. You look at this picture and it tells you it is Modern Farmhouse without showing you the whole table or setting. The object is to create the illusion of the story without telling it.
This makes you think of Spring or Summer and Casual warm days.
This one implies that this room is on the glam side even if you don’t see the entire room.
Julia @ Cuckoo4Design shared this fabulous picture of a tablesetting that draws you in. You don’t really see the whole table, but you love it.
Grace In My Space shared this pretty picture. This is a great desk area that makes you want to sit down and work.
This one is my favorite picture so far.
I am still learning so much, but I love this type of photography and I am always drawn in to pictures that tell a story. These fabulous ladies have mastered that art and I am really trying to learn too.

This is a great post Marty! I too recently acquired my first DSLR camera – I am amazed at how much better my pictures turn out. Karianne has another post where she provided examples different ways to photograph a simple vase on a coffee table. It was great information and so helpful! ( I think it was a few years back…!)
