Cowhide Rugs hit the decorating scene a few years ago and they are still here, even more this year. I see all the magazines and designers layering them in almost every room. They have made a resurgence like never before in popularity. I have always loved them and I love the one I have. It adds tons of interest and character to any room I put it in. I especially love it in our family room of our new house. I bought mine about 6 years ago from Cowhides International. It’s really large at 7’5″ x 8′ & was $329. This is not a sponsored post, I just think their rugs are exceptional and their prices really fair. I think it ties in with my beloved horse painting and adds a ton of interest, plus it is white and this room needs light colors with all the dark wood floors. Today I am going to share a really easy How To Get Wrinkles Out Of Cowhide Rugs – Step by Step Tutorial.
When I found the new chairs and did a refresh in the family room, a viewer suggested that I turn the rug more horizontal. This really does look better, however, see those wrinkles around the edge of the rug. I somehow didn’t notice those when the rug was turned more vertical.
See, you don’t really notice the wrinkles.
Since I do see them now, I had to get rid of them.
How To Get Wrinkles Out Of Cowhide Rugs. It really is easy, just a little bit of ironing. First you need a good clean towel to lay under the area with wrinkles.
Then you want to have a damp, thinner cloth to lay on top of the area. I am using an old but clean flour sack cloth. Have your iron really hot with no steam. Then simply iron over the wrinkled area until the wrinkles are gone and the cloth is dry.
Wrinkles are gone. The edge is nice and smooth now.
This corner of the rug was wrinkled too.
After ironing it, this part lays nice and flat too.
This looks so much better now. No wrinkles and no place to trip over a wrinkle.
I love cowhide rugs in almost every room I see them in. I think they are such a fabulous addition and add so much interest. It seems like most people either love them or just don’t care and some even really dislike them. I guess that is what makes us all different and our homes unique. For me, I love them alone or layered and in any color.
A friend told me this works great for outdoor rugs too. I haven’t tried that, so continue with caution depending on what your outdoor rug is made of.
Does this work for a cowhide with alot of hair on it?
Yes it does. The steam shrinks the cowhide so it doesn’t matter the hair. Marty
