May Pinterest Challenge – Porch & Patio

May Pinterest Challenge

I am thrilled to be joining the May Pinterest Challenge – Porch & Patio hosted by Country Road 407.  This month the challenge is taken from this wonderful porch by Bria Hemmel Interiors.  This would be a dream come true porch for most of us.

Since I don’t have a porch, just a stoop at the front door, I am sharing my patio.  This is one of my favorite spaces outside and I love to change the decor up all the time to make this an inviting and welcoming space.  If you are coming over from Yvonne @ Stone Gable, welcome.  I am sure you were as inspired by her porch as I always am.  She is such a talented designer and I love her style.

First things first, when we bought this house adding a pool to the backyard was one of my first wishes.  The pool dig started just a couple of months after we moved in.  It was an exciting day when the dig took place.  You can see all the details of the build in this post

The patio didn’t get any love during the pool build, it just became the dumping ground for all the construction stuff.

Once the pool was in I placed everything from our previous home on the patio, not very stylish, but at least it was a beginning and a clean space to relax.

Adding some curtains to the back and a sunshade on the front side of the patio created a “room”.   This gives us plenty of shade and a cozy spot to sit and relax and enjoy the view of the pool.  I love being able to change up the furniture and accessories on a whim.  We recently got some new white cushions and rug.  This makes changing our decor even easier.

Our inspiration picture used blue on the porch, I used blue and yellow for my decor.  Plaid and flowers always mix well.  A small coffee table holds a lantern for ambient lighting at night and still has room for a drink or snack.

I would love to replace the two settees with a sectional sofa, but they function beautifully for now, so that is at the bottom of my wish list.

We enjoy this area so much.  We can sit here in the evenings and enjoy the cool breezes or sit and relax after a swim.  The kitchen is just inside the sliding door, perfect to grab a snack or favorite drink.  A snack plate and a glass of wine is my favorite way to enjoy this space.

Of course one of the best features of the patio is that it has the perfect view of the pool.  It couldn’t be any better than this.

I had fun creating my version of the May Pinterest Challenge – Porch & Patio. Next on the tour is Christy @ Our Southern Home.  Christy’s Southern Home has a fabulous front porch that is gorgeous.  You are going to love how beautifully she decorates it each season.  Be sure to check out all the other links below.  I am sure you will find tons of inspiration.

Your patio looks so pretty decked out for summer. Blue and yellow is such a pretty combination to use for summer decorating. I’ve never seen a yellow plaid throw and I love yours. I hope that you enjoy a fun summer of swims and relaxing evenings on your pretty patio.

Such an inviting patio area. Love the pretty succulents plants.

That looks so inviting that I think I could sit there all day…… I really like the addition of the curtains:)

  18. May 26, 2020 / 1:33 pm

Wow Marty, love what you’ve created. Hanging the curtains was a great idea and it really looks like a room.

We had ivory cushions last year which are my preference. My neighbors tree ruined them so dark gret has to do. Made us angry because brand new and not our tree.

    Enjoy your oasis!

I love the addition of your curtain, it makes it look so cozy! And to look out over that pool and all the beautiful landscape? Sign me up!

What a beautiful setting, Marty! We love having our pool here, too, but we bought the house with it. I can imagine the work that went into building one yourself. I loved seeing the process in your post. Your patio looks perfectly inspired by the Pinterest photo!

Love your porch all set for summer swimming and relaxing, Marty!! An L-shaped outdoor sofa would look good there but the cost of furniture is what always gets me. Lol! Practicality sets in. Love the soft throw and pillows you’ve added and the curtain in the back is perfect for hiding neighbors and to soften sunlight… Ahhhh! Would love to pop over for a swim. 😉

    Enjoy your lovely backyard,
    Barb 🙂

Thanks so much Barb, I so agree, I would love an L-shaped sofa for this space, but just like you, price is a problem sometimes. Maybe that will work it’s way to the top of my project list some day. Love to have you over for a swim anytime. Marty

Thanks Yvonne, we love our pool. When we moved in 3 years ago that was one of my first wishes. We’ve loved having it for the last 3 years and that is where you would find me most of the time. Marty

Thanks so much Mary. The yellow plaid throw I found at Home Goods years ago, but I have several other plaid throws that I found online. I did find a bright yellow and white one on Target. Hope that helps. Marty
