DIY The Look For Less

I think we all want to have pretty homes and lots of different accessories.  However, they can sometimes be really expensive.  I have a few things to share with you today that will give you The Look For Less with just a few simple diy projects.

One of my favorite DIY projects is also one I get asked about a lot.  It is my kitchen utensil container on my counter.

I love how easy this was to do and it looks like a million.  It started with a simple glass cylinder from the $ store.  

Then I found some tape at Target.  I got a spool of gold and one of black.  I usually find these tapes in the stationary aisle 

Figure out a design you like and then start pressing the tape down all around the cylinder.

I alternated the spaces on this one too. 

One of my favorite pieces that I use in so many different ways is a pretty glass container that I have.  It was just a plain simple glass cylinder and then I did a really fast DIY and gave it an upscale look. 

 I found this cylinder vase at TJMaxx on the clearance aisle for $2.99.  Nice shape and size so I think it will be perfect for this project.  First thing I did was wash it in really hot soapy water.  I used a grease cutting soap (Dawn) and then rinsed it really well and dried it thoroughly.  Now it was sparkly clean.

 I taped off a line where I wanted the gold to be using frog tape.  I am just going to paint the lower section.

 Super simple, just a few light sprays with my 24 Karat Pure Gold spray paint and it is gorgeous.  You can buy this paint at Michaels and it goes a long way.  No need for heavy coats.  Now this isn’t like using the real gold leaf papers, however it looks the same, so that works for me.

I had a really small rectantular vase I found at the $ store, so I gave it a few stripes too.

Here’s another way to add some bling around the house.  How about with a few desk accessories. These small dishes are great to hold small paper clips.

Such a great way to dress up your desk tray.  

Here’s a hurricane I dressed up with gold spray paint.  Looks pretty fancy.

Here’s one more pretty vase that I painted.  

Use black for a more modern look or maybe silver is your thing.  The sky is the limit and you can have something that is totally unique and fits your decor perfectly.
