I love all the Christmas decor every year, but I also love it when it is all put away and the house seems fresh and new again. Once everything is cleaned up, it is fun to look around and imagine a few changes. I don’t have any major DIY projects on my mind at the moment, but a few decor changes would give some of the rooms a total refresh. That is my favorite room, so I started with French Farmhouse Kitchen Refresh.
With the new year, I am so ready to change things up a bit and put 2020 in the rearview mirror. Such a horrible year.
My kitchen has a lot of white and gray, so I thought maybe a bit of contrast would work. Black and white are always good, so why not add a bit of black. I changed out some of the accessories and added black tea towels and a black rug.
The pig cutting board is one I’ve had for years. He adds a bit of French whimsy.
I’ve had this little French Chef for years too, so time for him to come out and play again.
While I was Christmas shopping I found these new puck lights at Home Goods, they really work well. They put out so much more light than my old ones. (Sorry I don’t have the brand, I threw the box away. I found some really similar ones that use 3 AA batteries here.)
My island tray holds some fresh baked cookies and my little french drunken chef. I love this little guy, he makes me laugh every time I see him.
Our eat-in kitchen area is almost all wood.
Wood floors, same color wood table, and chairs. The only variable is the two wicker end chairs, and they are brown too. I usually have a lot of gray or beige with my linens in here. However black and white check just seemed to be what my mind was thinking about.
I love these white ceramic finials, and the white planter helps to lighten up the table. The light wood planter plays off the light wood base and handles of the tin lantern. Soft green foliage also keeps the centerpiece light and airy.
It’s always fun to pull a few things out of my stash that I haven’t used in a while and create a whole different look and feel to a room.
Having a French Farmhouse Kitchen is fun for a change. How about you, are you ready for some changes too?
Love how your kitchen is so bright and open. Very pretty. Happy Sunday. xoxo Kris
Adding black accessories was just the ticket to freshen your post-holiday kitchen. I so enjoy visiting your beautiful home.
Wow! Such easy changes for a different look. Very very nice and inspiring!
Marty, how do those puck lights work? H ow do you get them installed under your cabinetry? How do you get them on and off? Thanks and yes love the black/white. I love red and would look to incorporate a little of that somehow…….. 🙂
The have a peel off backing that sticks under the cabinets. They do stick up there really well, however I needed to reposition one and a knife slide right under it to peel it off and I was able to stick it where I wanted it. The light part screws to the sticky part and it does take 3 AA Batteries. You just push up on the light to turn on or off. just like normal push type lamps. I really like them. I found several on Amazon that were similar and very reasonable priced.
Isn’t it nice that Winter is such a flexible season? We can literally pull out all our favorite pieces and use them in new and different ways. I especially like how you brought in some fall branches along with your cookies and drunken chef. They fit in perfectly and bring color and warmth. I enjoyed this post and your approach to warming up your home after Christmas!
A visit to your kitchen is always a real treat for me. You come up with refreshing ideas to make the season change so much easier. I love your pig cutting board. I am from Ontario, Canada and January so far this year has been very dull and grey but your ideas for the kitchen facelift brighten my day. Thank you for being a bright spot in my day.
Love your French Farmhouse kitchen! I try to add French Country accents to my kitchen to make it look a little provincial, like ceramic chickens, black and white plant container, and a scroll-y metal pot rack. Your vignettes are inspiring!
Looks great, interesting but not too fussy! NICE COMBINATION!
Hi Marty! I’m not blogging any more but I do like to see what you’re up to. Your kitchen just looks so pretty and I love all of the black and white you’ve used. Oh, I love the idea of the undercounter puck lights! I need some of those. I looked up the ones on Amazon you mentioned and everyone seemed to like the light but said the adhesive wasn’t strong enough. These you brought from Lowes, did you have to screw them in or are they self sticking? I really need these.
Happy New Year, friend!
Blessings,
Shelia 😉
