When you decorate on a budget, that usually means doing a few furniture makeovers. Over the years I have made over quite a few furniture pieces. Some of them have definitely stood the test of time and are still favorites. I thought I would share My Favorite Furniture Makeovers with you. These are classic winners for sure.
These two chairs that I made over have been pinned thousands of times and they are two of my favorites too. I went a little daring with the cowhide upholstery, but I am so glad I did. They have definitely become classics.
When I found my fabulous Cowhide Louis chairs at Goodwill this is what they looked like. Great bones and for $9.99 each, how could you pass them up? I had never done upholstery, but for the price, I figured it was worth giving it a try.
I share a step by step tutorial showing how I transformed them into these fun chairs.
My rush seat ladder back chairs I’ve had for years. Finally, the seats broke on the two captain’s chairs. Since replacing the rush was beyond my technical ability and having someone redo them was waaaaayyyy too expensive, plus I would have to wait for months to have them done. I needed to find an alternative that didn’t damage the chair (in case I wanted to have the rush seats done later) but would look amazing and be comfortable. This step by step tutorial is super easy. (You guys must have a lot of these chairs because this is my #2 most pinned post of all time. }
Master Bedroom Headboard Makeover. When I was redoing our Master Bedroom in our previous home, I really wanted a statement headboard, however, the prices were way out of my budget. A statement headboard cost several hundred dollars. My budget was under $100. (You can see the complete bedroom makeover that cost less than $200 here. ) All the pieces from that makeover transitioned beautifully into my previous home. Classics always work.
I started shopping all the thrift stores and then went into Hotel Liquidators and found exactly what I wanted.
I had never redone a padded headboard, but I loved the fabric on this one, so all I needed to do was transform the wood. You can see my step-by-step tutorial here.
Our Guest Bedroom Headboard makeover was a fun project too. I again wanted a statement piece, but I knew first hand to check out Hotel Liquidators.
I found the perfect Queen Headboard to makeover for only $29.50. You can see the step-by-step tutorial for staining the frame here and upholstering the insert here. This was my first time doing the insert upholstery and I was amazed at how easy it was to do.
Over the years I’ve painted and stained a lot of furniture, but these continue to be my favorites.
All your furniture makeovers have been so great. I loved when you did your dining chairs. Those are just awesome.
Happy Thursday sweet friend. xoxo
Oh I loved seeing them all listed like this. Marty you really transformed those “great bones” into GREAT pieces in your beautiful home.
I have always been so terribly afraid to try reupholstery. I need to get over that. I should’ve been working on things this whole last year but I didn’t. Trying not to beat myself up too much.
You have inspired me to get busy making things nice again. It’s been a long while not feeling it.
Have a blessed and wonderful weekend. Hope your pool is warming up nicely. It’s been cold, grey and in mid 50s here all week.
