Laundry Room Makeover Reveal. It’s always so fun to take a room that looks really sad and make it fun. I love room makeovers and my laundry room makeover is a fun one.
My laundry room is really small, just the width of a washer and dryer and a walk-thru from the kitchen to the garage. Really plain and builder basic for sure.
When we moved in, I added a few accessories and called it good. It functioned but really didn’t look like the rest of my house.
I found a picture on Pinterest that became my inspiration. It came from a blog called Stay Home Style. This is a fairly new blog, so hop over and say hi to her, she has fabulous style.
Adding a shelf above the washer and dryer and doing a DIY Painted Feature Wall would bring this room to life. So I took all the accessories down and got busy patching all the holes and painting. You can see my step-by-step tutorial here. (As I said when I started the project, I am not replacing my appliances. Since Jim passed I only have about 4 loads a week for just me, so buying new appliances just for looks doesn’t make sense to me. These appliances work beautifully, so they stay.)
When the wall was done, the fun part began. Adding a few fun and useful accessories. ( I bought a white shelf from Lowes and cut it down to size. I used the cut pieces to make braces for the wall to hold the shelf.
I shopped my stash and added back in the washboard and tin scoop that I had in here previously. I bought the white yarn basket to hold some of my cleaning cloths. A faux ivy adds a little life to the room.
I think bringing in some fun accessories just for fun always makes a room interesting. I found a beverage jar to use for my detergent. Love that it had a wooden top too. I’ve added a decal that says “laundry detergent”. The larger basket holds more cleaning supplies.
I love how it turned out and now I think it feels like me.
Cost Breakdown
Shelf above washer & Dryer -$14.96
Laundry Dispenser – $11.96
White Yarn Basket – $9.96
Total – – —$39.88
You did a great job, it looks so good.
Looks great and I’ sure it was fun to create. The beverage container is a clever idea. What does the other side of the room look like? I’ve had a similar pass through type laundry room and had to use the other side and the back of the door to hang an ironing board. I had to use every inch of the space.
The other side of the room had the electrical panel right in the middle of the wall. It is huge, so no room to do anything with this space. The doors when open cover the entire wall area. So my wall is blank.
hang brooms and mop and other things on with magnets
Great job. I too love the dispenser for the detergent. Almost makes me want to redo my laundry area but it’s in the actual garage so the stripes I painted will stay for now.
Oh Marty what a great re love of your laundry room. Beautiful . Love the cute and funny sign.
Marty, this turned out so cute! Did you hang the lower shelf yourself?
Yes, it wasn’t hard, just a few screws. I do like having the extra shelf too.
Marty, Marty, Marty – I’m in love with what you’ve done! My goodness this room s gorgeous!! When I achieve that sense of decorating accomplishment, I can stay in the room and just take it all in with a smile aka “I did it!” I hope you are taking the time in doing same!! =-)
Absolutely stunning!!!!
Great job! Love how you used the inspiration pic and made it your own. You should be very proud of yourself!
Great job. You showed how a little creativity can change the whole look of even a tiny room.
It looks so polished, Marty! Great change.
Wow. That’s impressive. I love the matching vase on the top shelf.

It looks awesome. Now I will check out Stay Home Style:)
I like how yours turned out – better than the inspiration photo. Maybe I will tackle that space in my house, too!
Excellent Marty! So sharp looking.
This is absolutely gorgeous!!!! And very affordable! I LOVE this! It’s magazine worthy!
Marty! This looks absolutely fabulous! How fun to do that paint treatment on the walls–honestly, it looks like expensive wallpaper. Now you’ve made this utilitarian space both hard-working and pretty. Well done!
Thanks so much for joining the Grace at Home party. I’m featuring you this week!
I love this. The wallpaper really makes the entire room
