Is French Farmhouse A New Trend?

Is French Farmhouse A New Trend?  Not sure if it is new or just more on-trend now.  There seem to be some that think “Farmhouse” is out, but some are beginning to embrace “French Farmhouse”.  The difference from my point of view is that French is a little more refined than regular Farmhouse.  Either way, it’s an interesting question.

I don’t have any major DIY projects on my mind at the moment, but a few decor changes would give some of my rooms a total refresh.   So why not a little bit of a French Farmhouse decor in my kitchen.

With the new year, I am so ready to change things up a bit.  My personal life has hit a couple of large bumps with losing Jim and my son Chuck, so I need something to turn the year around.  I need a change from the bad to something good and something fun.

My kitchen has a lot of white and gray, so I thought maybe a bit of contrast would work.  Black and white are always good, so why not add a bit of black.  I changed out some of the accessories and added black tea towels and a black rug.  Nothing staggering, but some pretty french tea towels work.

The pig cutting board is one I’ve had for years.  He adds a bit of French whimsy.

I’ve had this little French Chef for years too, so time for him to come out and play again.

My island tray holds some fresh baked cookies and my little french drunken chef.  I love this little guy, he makes me laugh every time I see him.

Our eat-in kitchen area has a great trestle table and french style ladder back chairs.  I love their rush seats and the way the slats on the chairs have a cut out design.

I usually have a lot of gray or beige with my linens in here.  However black and white check just seemed to be what my mind was thinking about.  I always think of the wonderful black and white check tablecloths you see in most french restaurants.

I love these white ceramic finials, and the white planter helps to lighten up the table.  The light wood planter plays off the light wood base and handles of the tin lantern.  Soft green foliage also keeps the centerpiece light and airy.  Just a simple centerpiece that echoes the simple ones in france.

It’s always fun to pull a few things out of my stash that I haven’t used in a while and create a whole different look and feel to a room.

So what do you think, Is French Farmhouse A New Trend or has it always been here?

I have no idea how long French farmhouse has been around, but if I had to name my style, that’s what it would be! So, I’m hoping it’s here to stay lol!!! Have a great week, Donna

I think it’s so hard to keep up with what’s popular, I feel like it changes much more often now. I’ve always considered myself cottage style, but I also have farmhouse and French elements in the house. Your home alway looks warm and elegant to me…and I’m so very sorry to hear about your son, Marty. Truly. Sending you prayers.

Lovely kitchen! Love the black and Frenchie touches as well as the black & white checks. Very classic. You are an inspiration, Martie. Thinking of you at this difficult time,
