If you follow me, then you have seen me trying and failing to update the bedding in the Guest Bedroom. I want to give that room a chic and inviting look for my guests. So far my attempts are failing. Here is how The Guest Bedroom Saga Continues.
I bought a new white quilt and shams. However, I really didn’t think about my taupe headboard and beige dust ruffle. Now even if I change the dust ruffle, the headboard looks terrible with white. This really was a fail.
I love the gray and pink I use at Christmas, it looks so inviting and chic.
I also like the camel color that I use in the Master, but I don’t think I want two rooms with camel.
So I tried again. The painting in the room has aqua in it, so I bought a really pretty soft aqua quilt and shams. Maybe the aqua color should be darker for this room, at any rate, this is really just so-so. Everything looks so washed out.
In an effort to see if the color worked anywhere, I put it on the master bed. Not sure why it works there, except the room is much brighter and the headboard is dark, not taupe, and the aqua wasn’t next to the headboard.
The soft aqua color was just used as accent pillows and the quilt as a coverlet at the foot of the bed.
So back to the drawing board. I think maybe I need to change the taupe insert in the headboard in the guest bedroom. (You can see the Headboard Makeover here.) Nothing seems to be working, just not sure what color I need to use if I change the headboard color. Maybe an off-white. What would you do? For now, The Guest Bedroom Saga Continues.

Keep the taupe! I’d try a Hunter green or deep red comforter with rustic vintage animals throw pillows. I found these
Ropyeer vintage animal throw pillows on Amazon but I can’t add a photo. I’ll attempt to message you on Facebook. Love the guest room ideas!
That’s Hopyeer rustic vintage animal prints. I goofed
For my personal taste there is too much ‘brown’ in the room and I can’t get past that color. Interested in how you solve the problem, I know you will so following this saga.
Have you thought about a black spread and shams? I think it might be a winner with your existing colors. Betty
I would try a deep teal in the guest bedroom. Would look great against our headboard and dust ruffle. Maybe add copper colored accents.
I think the aqua would work if you used cream pillow cases and accent pieces instead of the darker tan. Even though the room isn’t exactly how you want it yet, it is still a lovely space that looks so inviting.

I would fabric paint the headboard a teal or navy color. Fabric painting is so easy and would be simple. I would also put a white dust ruffle or one to match the headboard and use a chinoiserie quilt and shams. You can find them pretty reasonable online. I also think a light colored large rug in the room over the brown carpet would lighten it up. Just my opinion but love your website. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
What fun ideas. Thanks for the suggestions.
Hi Marty
I’m going to be controversial and say that perhaps you are concentrating too much on the bedding combinations and ignoring the picture. You are so used to seeing it (and probably love it) but my eye is drawn to the picture rather than the pretty bed cover combinations. Keep the guest headboard neutral and I would do the same in the master bedroom. As someone else mentioned, there’s a lot of dark brown and that brown headboard surround + brown fabric looks very heavy.
Thanks, great observation. Marty
