Using Plants In Your Home. I love the way plants add life to every room in the house. I think every room needs at least one or two. They can be real or faux, they always add character and bring a room to life. There are so many fabulous faux out there now, so even if you don’t have the time or a green thumb, you can have some pretty plants.
I mix real and faux all the time. In the picture above there are two real plants in the corner. A pretty ficus tree and a smaller plant in a basket in front of it. On the coffee table, there is a pretty faux ivy. It looks so real you would never think it was faux.
The real statement plant is of course the tree. It totally makes the room come to life. This room is small and too much furniture seems to crowd the space. I spent months trying to get this room right. The TV wall was a problem. This is one of the many arrangements I had on that wall. Nothing hideous, but nothing great either. That chair in the corner just didn’t add anything to the room.
Adding the plants changed everything about the look and feel of the room.
My living room had a similar problem, so I removed one chair and added a pretty corn tree in the corner. This totally changed that room too.
One of the blessings of real plants is that they grow. This means you can buy a small tree and it will become a big tree. This is where you sometimes have to give them a haircut or trim them back. I had to do that recently with my Corn Tree. It became too bushy and way too tall. You can see how I tamed my corn plant and cut it back here. Same thing with the ficus tree in the family room. It grew really tall and got really busy too, so it soon crowded the corner. Time to change things up. The corn plant fits this corner so much better.
A simple solution since the living room had two-story ceilings and was much larger was to move the ficus tree to the living room. Now it can grow tall and bushy. Since it is more open and airy, it fits the room so much better than the corn plant.
Sometimes you just need to move things around and everything works better.
Thanks for saying the plants can be real or faux….so many sites say faux plants are big NO. I disagree….our living area gets lots of light, but not a lot of direct sunlight – and I have killed more ficus trees than I can count. I love using faux plants and agree…they add so much to a room ! Your home is beautiful !
