$12.99 Night Stand Refinished. Finding furniture for a bedroom makeover on a really tight budget can take a little time. Since I have visited just about every furniture outlet in town looking for a nightstand, I was just about to throw in the sponge. There was not one used one in this town that looked remotely decent. I really didn’t want to pay $300 to $500 for a new and that was all I found that I liked. Then I made my usual trek into Goodwill while I was out grocery shopping and what do you think I found? They so rarely have furniture, especially anything you would want, however, this is going to be perfect.
Perfect size. 26″ wide x 16″ deep x 28″ high. I love the style, just enough character to be interesting. Hate the old pulls, so I will find some neat antique bail pulls to replace them. Solid wood made by Hooker. Best of all it was $12.99. Love, love, love it.
This was my $12.99 GW find. Really needed some loving care, but tons of potential. This is a substantial piece made by Hooker.
The top was really bad, however since it was solid wood, I knew it could be refinished. I was thinking about painting this piece but decided to refinish it in its original finish.
Ta-Da – – – – After refinishing and some new hardware, I think it is a treasure.
I used a combination of Minwax Dark Mahogany and Walnut. It gave it the perfect color to coordinate with the headboard.
When I redid the headboard some of the mahogany came thru when I distressed it, so the nightstand looks perfect in the deep mahogany finish.
I am thrilled with how it came out. I think this $12.99 Night Stand Refinish was a success.
Total cost :
Nightstand $12.99
Hardware $32.00
Mahogany Stain $4.97
I had the stripper, sandpaper and walnut stain.
Total – $49.96 – – – – -Not bad for a quality piece made by Hooker
A few months later I found this dresser and refinished it to match the nightstand. Now my room is perfect.
Love it!!!! Isn’t it funny how the new pulls end up costing more than the piece! I have those same pulls on a piece I redid….classic. I love getting a score at a resale shop. If you are looking for something you should take a day trip up to Prescott. We have tons of resale shops, 2 Goodwills, 2 DAV Vets, Habitat AND better summer weather!!!! lol A lot of “Offer ups” and Craigslist people too. You did a great job on this. Have a Blessed Easter!!!
Wow, I need to take a trip to Prescott for sure. Sounds like a great trip. Thanks, Marty
Wow, Marty, what a great find. I love it. It’s. perfect in your bedroom. HUgs to you.
So glad you didn’t paint the nightstand. Your room would not have looked as upscale as it does with the mahogany. In my part of the country the painted furniture phase is about over unless it is a creamy white.
I think if you live in an area with a lot of older retirees, there are some great bargains in GW or other thrift stores. In my area, there’s just junk!
Very Nice!
