Hallmark’s Newest Movie – Guiding Emily written by Blogland’s Barbara Hinske.

We have some amazing people in the blogland community and Barbara Hinske is one of those people.  I met her 10 years ago at a blogger gathering and we have been super best friends ever since.  She is amazing.  She’s written over 20 book and had one of her books The Christmas Club made into a Hallmark movie a couple years ago.  Well now her book Guiding Emily has been made into a new movie.  It will debut on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, 9/8/23 – 9/8c.  Check out the movie press release below.

Local author has second book adapted for the screen by Hallmark

USA Today Bestselling Author Barbara Hinske’s novel Guiding Emily has been adapted for the screen and will air on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on September 8, 9 ET/8 CT. Repeated showings have been scheduled.

Hinske drew her inspiration for her novel from a visit to the Foundation for Blind Children in 2019. She was so moved by their work that she asked how she could help them. They replied they needed 2 things—1) money and 2) to increase the awareness within the sighted community of the isolation experienced by people with visual impairments. Hinske knew a book could address both of these issues. She donates half of her royalties from Guiding Emily to FBC.

Guiding Emily is the tale of a young woman who loses her eyesight in an accident and a puppy who becomes a guide dog—her guide dog. It’s the love story of their journey to find each other. The book has had a huge impact within the visually impaired community, bringing hope and providing comfort.

FBC transcribed Guiding Emily into braille through a ground-breaking collaboration with the Arizona prison system where inmates learn the highly sought after skill of braille transcription. The braille edition has become the textbook of choice for newly blind adults learning braille.

The movie was filmed entirely on location in Victoria, BC. Starring Sarah Drew (of Grey’s Anatomy fame) as Emily and with Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) as the voice of Garth, the film will bring the book’s heartwarming, inspirational messages to a wider audience.

Help spread the word about this trailblazing Hallmark film. Together, we can change the way people view the visually impaired and the dogs who allow them to live their best lives.
