Furniture Makeovers. This is probably a given that you all know about. Simple upholstery makeovers are another way to add that personal touch to your home. By choosing unique upholstery fabric you can definitely make a statement.
If you are like me you get attached to furniture and can’t seem to edit or part with a beloved piece. This could be a not-so-good thing as I’ve learned over the years. Honoring the space of a room is so important. Some rooms are open and airy and some are little boxes, but whatever your room may be, honor the space the room has to offer. In most cases Less is More and will give you an upscale high end look. Click here to see how I learned that lesson in my current home. If you take a good look at your favorite Designer Rooms, you’ll find one of the main ingredients in every room is Pattern and Texture. Now it can be low key or shouting from the roof tops, but every great room grabs our attention with some kind of Pattrn and Texture. I am one that likes soft and subtle. Adding Pattern and Texture For Fall can be done on a really small budget. Both the pillows covers on the sofa came from the Pillow section of Hobby Lobby. Marked down to half price they were $3 and $5. The assorted pumpkins ranged from $1 to $4 for the leather one. Both the pillows and pumpkins are timeless and classic so they will always have a High End look.
One big statement piece will create more of a high end look than a lot of little pieces. By that I mean Big Art, Mirrors and Accessories. Larger decor pieces and fewer of them can elevate a room to the next level. Large baskets, urns, candle holders, and lamps are statement pieces. That’s what you want. Check out garage sales, thrift shops and by all means your favorite retailers for their sales. Don’t be afraid to tweak a piece to make it fit your style and home. Your Style is Changing & Evolving – Now What?
Throughout the years my style has changed several times. The problem comes with how do I change my style and keep what I have. I think I am influenced by my surroundings and what I see as trends from time to time. Most of us can’t just get rid of all our furniture and accessories and start over from scratch. We have to transition into a new style gradually. When I had my first home my style was Modern. Clean lines, low and lean. Then I switched to a very Tradition style. Dark wood furniture, heavy fabrics, velvets, and prints. Next, I went really Country with tons of antiques and cute prints and wallpaper. These are costly changes that result from following trends or being influenced by my surroundings. If I lived in the city I went modern, when I lived in the mountains, I went country.
I have finally realized I can have a small dose of everything with my current Transitional Style. Classic, light contemporary and just a touch of grandma chic. This really reflects me the most and who I am. Find out your style and then embrace it. Live with what makes you happy, then hone your surroundings to be the best they can be. You will definitely come out with that High End Look On A Budget.
