Can This Color Work? – Maybe Not. The sofa saga continues. I have been looking at leather sofas. My favorite is a cognac, camel, or luggage-colored sofa. They remind me of leather sofas forever. I have questioned whether this color would work in my room or not. Previously I’ve had a soft off-white sofa and I loved it. It just faded into the wall and didn’t make the room look smaller. It was a beautiful soft plush fabric that was not practical for everyday use with rowdy grands and even adults. I moved it into the living room since it is so perfect in there and have been on the hunt for a new sofa. I am making do with an old one that I bought slip-covers for. It works ok, just not what I would like.
I love our two dark gray recliners. They are so comfortable and I love the style. So they stay. One of my viewers suggested that I try a camel or cognac colored blanket on the sofa to see if the color worked. Genius idea, why didn’t I think of this? So I got out a quilt I have and placed it over the sofa. Wow, that was really eye opening. I didn’t like it at all.
Yes I know, the quilt looks sloppy, but I am just testing color.
This is the sofa I was considering. It is pretty close to the color of my quilt. I just think this color clashes and just stands out and screams at you. Not what I want.
Here are some gray sofas that I liked. Maybe I should do gray, but should I do dark or light?
This dark gray is a beautiful sofa and one that looks like it belongs in the room. I like it.
I really think if I go with any of the cognac, luggage, camel colored leather sofas it will look like I had some pretty left over furniture that I just threw into the room. It wouldn’t look planned at all. I think I am leaning towards the dark gray leather. Not sure, maybe just because that’s what I have now and I am used to it.
What do you think?
I think the dark grey would look better
Gray it is but if your son likes to lay on the sofa to watch TV, those arms are really uncomfortable. I love the old fashioned overstuffed furniture with big rolled arms. Impossible to find. I feel your pain.
I’m being honest. I thought we got away from the matchy-matchy furniture and accessories. That is so old school and what our mother’s did….bought furniture as a ‘set’. I realize we still see these ‘sets’ or grouping in the furniture stores because they are show casing all the pieces available. So I think the gray sofa, while really nice, is so much like the recliners. And maybe the garden types stool next to the recliner near the door can be removed. Less on that wall and move the recliner just a bit. Open up that wall and fewer pieces in the small room. I don’t think the sofa should look like a matching piece to the chairs.
I love the light gray leather sofa. You are absolutely correct that the beige is NOT the color for your living room.
Be objective. Look at the room with a dark gray blanket on the sofa. Rethink three lamps and four tables and a coffee table. Edit a bit and you may love that new long sofa. I bought sofas with skinny arms. They cost a lot. My husband absolutely hates them. So no skinny arms if you are looking for comfort. You need the input of the person who is going to use it most.
I think I would take the picture down and re evaluate the cognac color and the lighter gray. My eye goes to the picture as the focal point, which is lovely but I think it’s distracting my eyes to look at the furniture as a grouping.
I think the mid to darker gray would be the best. I don’t think that’s matchy-matchy at all. You’ll be using pillows and throws and other accessories to break up the gray. I also agree with the straight arms. not comfortable at all. Brilliant idea to use a quilt or throw to give you an idea of color. personally I love the look of leather, but don’t find it comfortable. It’s hot and sticky in my book. A gray fabric sofa would nix the idea of a set and be more breathable.
I think you should pick what you are leaning towards, as you already love the color! It will be super versatile with other colors as well. (:
