When I bought the living room coffee table a little over 2 years ago, doing a coffee table makeover was one of the things I wanted to do. Then you know how it goes, I was so busy trying to pull this house together – (we had only been here about 6 months at the time) – so it wasn’t #1 priority.
Then I guess I got used to it and forgot about my makeover, that is until my 2020 Summer Home Tour a couple of weeks ago. It’s funny how you guys see everything and don’t miss a trick. I had one viewer that noticed that the coffee table color and mirror color clashed. The coffee table color isn’t the brass color that I use in this room, so it really clashed with the mirror. Her comment is the mirror ruined the room. (She really didn’t like the mirror. ) Actually, it’s not the mirror, it’s the coffee table that needs to be redone. Time to take care of that.
Outside to the back yard next to the garden where I had a little shade and get to work. A really light rubbing down with steel wool.
Time to get my paints out. I want this to be a nice gold kind of tarnished brass finish. These are the paints I used. I first prayed it with the Metallic Primer. Then with the 18K gold. That didn’t make it as gold as I wanted. So another coat with the Design Master 24K Pure Gold. This stuff is amazing. Perfect color.
Ok, before I show you how it turned out. Let’s see what it looked like. You see, my viewer was right, they don’t look good together. I got so used to the two together that I didn’t even notice anymore. I bought this coffee table in the first place because it had a bottom shelf and the top had beveled glass. The really muted gold tone was one I knew I could change – I just didn’t. haha.
Now it really does look so much better. Thanks to my viewer for bringing this to my attention. I love it even more than before.
See how pretty the mirror and the coffee table look together now!!! It’s amazing that such a simple paint job and a couple of hours took care of this problem.
Here again, is the before. The original finish really doesn’t look good. It almost even looks green. So glad I painted it.
I’m glad you guys notice these things and keep me on my toes. This makes my room look new again. I love it.
It’s amazing how such a simple Coffee Table Makeover adds so much to this room.
Nice job on the color reset!!!
Isn’t it amazing what a little spray paint can do. Looks great Marty. Happy Wednesday.
Hugs,
Kris
Where did the original coffee table come from? I want one 🙂
It came from Overstock and the price is so cheap you won’t believe it. Here is the link https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Porch-Den-Sorlie-Square-Metal-Glass-Open-Shelf-Cocktail-Table-Gold/22727434/product.html
Paint is a magical thing, something I say often. Looks great!

Although I’ve been reading blogs for several years, I still don’t understand why people can be so critical. Yes, sometimes bloggers ask our opinion but that’s different. Someone saying that mirror ruins the room is just rude. We all like different things. And by the way, I love that mirror! I wouldn’t last 2 seconds in blog world with those who think themselves so important that whatever their taste is, then that’s the rule.
Thanks, I guess I have tough skin, or at least I try to look at these kinds of comments as constructive criticism. I do like the mirror, but the bright brass on the mirror did look weird with the greenish brass on the coffee table. Now I like them both even more, so it turned out good. Marty
Hello Marty,
You did a great job with that table! I have to say you are such a classy lady too in every way. Beautiful home and thank you for bringing us wonderful tips and post.
Oh my, it does look better. You knew just what to do!
Amazing transformation, and it really pulls your room together.
There is no one more creative than you and this looks beautiful!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 🙂
You did a wonderful job with the table and everything looks beautiful!
I am going with the idea the critic was a decorator. Good job. I like the floral arrangement and container. At Christmas you can tuck some red berries in and it will be beautiful for two seasons.
Thanks, red berries for Christmas sounds fabulous. As fast as this year is going, it won’t be long. Marty
