My Favorite Fall Accessory. I always love it when the weather turns cool and crisp. We don’t get really cold temperatures here in the desert, but we do need to turn on the heater once in a while or grab something warm. I love to snuggle up with a favorite throw blanket. I also love the way they add some warm and cozy charm to any room. They are definitely one of my favorite decorating tools and over the years I have collected quite a few.
I love how this plaid one adds more pattern and texture to the collection of pillows on the sofa.
That same throw works just as well with a different grouping of pillows in the living room. (I would love to change out the sofa but since that is not in the budget at the moment, the throw attracts your eye and doesn’t draw so much attention to the outdated cut velvet pattern on the sofa.)
I love how you can use the same throw with so many different pillow combinations. I also love how adding a throw to the decor of a room can totally change the feel of the room. Look at this room without a throw.
Nothing else changed except I added a throw on the end of the sofa. The feel of the room has changed, now it looks warm and cozy.
Here’s the same room with a different throw color and the room feeling changes again.
I think throws are wonderful for any room. This throw on the guest bed totally makes the room. It would seem lifeless without it.
I use them in almost every room in the house and even outside on the patio. They are always wonderful to grab and snuggle up with if the weather gets a little chilly.
I have several fur throws and I also love some of the really funky ones too. This one always gets comments.
It really is pretty funky but so fun.
Some have asked in the past where do you keep all of your throws. Since they are a larger decor item, finding a space for them can be hard. I found the perfect spot for mine when we got our new console for the family room TV. Having some storage behind those doors was one of the reasons I liked this particular piece.
I have quite a collection of different throws and I love to be able to grab one at any time. The shelf space in this console keeps them nice and neat, and easy to grab. I love to just roll them and then I can still see all the colors and patterns.
If you don’t have a collection of throws, they are an inexpensive item to add to your decor stash and so versatile to use. Plus nothing is as nice to snuggle up to as a pretty soft throw blanket.

It is so very helpful to see all the variations of pillow and throw combinations! And your storage solution is great. Thanks for all the ideas. By the way, I really like the cut velvet sofa and the subtle pattern it adds to your room. I don’t see it as outdated.
Thanks so much, the cut velvet really is pretty and the sofa is such a comfy piece. Glad you don’t think it is outdated.
I also love throws and have several of my own. As far as the ” dated sofa”, I would love to find one like it for myself. I think it is beautiful. I guess I no longer worry about what is “in style”, and just do what pleases my eye.
Thanks so much, I like the sofa too. So glad you like the cut velvet.
Throws are great! You have a lovely collection.
Thinking and praying for you, Marty!

I love throws too. I use cotton ones in warmer weather for chilly air conditioning and cozier ones for winter. Our North Florida weather is similar to yours. We do have some cold days.
I agree they are a definite decorating tool. They come in so many colors, fabrics and designs. Showing how that one thing can change a room is amazing. Isn’t it?
I think of you often and pray for you. But we have the hope of seeing our loved ones again someday.
Dear Marty,
You always have the best ideas and a very approachable way of presenting them! Thank you so much! I found a very tall, lidded basket at a flea market last year and I have put all our throws in there. The basket is a nice accessory in the family room and it is easy to lift the lid and grab a throw when you need one. Blessings to you, Marty, in this difficult time.
Hi Marty,
I love all your throws and pillows. Great way to store them too. Happy Thursday. Maybe the rest of the week find you with peace.
xoxo
Kris
Marty, I love your blog. You give readers so much inspiration using budget-friendly decor/ideas. I use pillows for seasonal decor, but never thought about throws.
Question: love your horse and sconces in your family room. Would you mind sharing where you purchased the sconces? Again, thanks for your inspiration.
I also really like your velvet sofa. Wish mine was that pretty.
Thanks, I love hearing others like it. I thought maybe it was a little out of date, but I think it is a keeper since so many like it.
Marty, I love all your throws, and the great storage for them! But it’s your outdoor room that makes me swoon! Sending warm thoughts your way!
I like that sofa – well, both of them. But the velvet cutwork one looks comfy and the detail is pretty. I think I need to go out and get some throws! They really do add a lot of character to the sofa. I’ve been using a “Drunkard’s Path” quilt over one end of the back of our leather sofa for color and interest. But the front room sofa really needs a pretty throw. Also, great storage tip!
I think of you almost daily and offer up a little prayer. I also love that sofa. It is perfect.
I love the cut velvet sofa! I feel we are all too quick to update to the present forgetting that some older things are staples and have more staying power than what is on-trend at the time. I love your home and style, especially the way you mix old and new. I actually have a blue damask camelback sofa and have begun to embrace more antique and historical items and fabrics to go with it and I notice they suddenly feel fresh again and my home has taken on a cozy lived-in vibe that I felt was missing for a long time. I too think of you often and hope you can feel the fellowship that comes your way. Be well, Marty and thanks for working hard to keep us informed and delighted.
Thank you so much for reassuring me that my cut velvet sofa is fine. I really do like it, I just thought that since it was aging maybe it was off trend. Good thing I couldn’t afford a new one anyway.
