Kitchen Makeover & The Power Of Paint.  A kitchen makeover can be one of the most amazing makeovers for any home.  Even if you don’t do anything but paint, it can be a huge dramatic change.  This kitchen in my previous home was very dark, just changing the wall color made all the difference.  Kitchen Makeover – The Power of Paint.  It always amazes me how much a can of paint can do to transform any space. 

I enjoyed this kitchen, it was super functional and had plenty of storage.  I even liked the dark brown paint for a few years, just time for a change in color and style.

The kitchen was open to the breakfast area and the family room and didn’t look all that dark.  A nice warm chocolate brown.

After a couple of years, I was really ready for some updates, the before was really builder basic.  Most of my decor was rather heavy into the farmhouse look, and my style was changing.  Time to edit and change a few things.  We were thinking about selling this home so time to update on a really tiny budget.

#1 was to paint the walls the same color as the breakfast area and family room.  This made an amazing difference and instantly made the kitchen look more updated.

I couldn’t believe how this brought the kitchen to life.  I loved the lighter brighter feel of the space.  This made me a total believer of A Kitchen Makeover & The Power Of Paint.

See what I mean.  Totally different from before.  Now nothing wrong with this, just time for a change.  Time to get rid of the brown and purge a few accessories.  As I look at it now, it looks really cluttered.

#2  Accessories – I really needed to rethink my accessories and give the space a less cluttered look.  I still used a ton of my farmhouse accessories, I just pulled back a ton.

I started with some new vignettes on top of the cabinets but left them really simple.  Purging was the name of the game here.  I love my copper weathervane, so he went back on top of the range hood cabinet.  Front and center.

 On the side cabinets, I used some restraint also.  A couple of sculpted wheat stalks, demijohn, my dad’s old toolbox, and my cute new horse. (You know I had to have a horse to go with my horse painting in the adjoining family room.)

 Over the fridge, I used my WW11 Ammo basket, a couple of french breadboards, and my Amish rooster.

 A simple wine display on top of the fridge.

 The right side has a few more cooking essentials.

A butter slab holds my oils and grinders and my DIY utensil holder keeps all those essential tools handy.

This corner is purely for play.  I like to have something fun to look at.  An old rolling pin and another french breadboard are highlighted in the basket.  Some bread in the cloche always looks good.  (I love bread – I need to buy some  that’s real)

At this corner I have my little $1 TV from goodwill that I love to watch while I am cooking and my malt mixer and candy scale.  These two were in my parents soda fountain when I was a little girl.  My children and grands all love to have a malt when they come over.

Nice to have a change.  I think I still need to purge a few accessories, but it is so much better.

Even though this kitchen didn’t get new cabinets or appliances, it was a vast improvement.  So do what you can on the budget you have and it will be worth your time.  Just remember, you don’t always have to paint the cabinets, maybe just the walls.  Make sure to keep your accessories in check too.

P. S.  We sold this home soon after and the lady that bought it loved it.  That made me feel really good.
