Transitioning To Winter – Room by Room – Kitchen & Breakfast Area

I don’t know if you are like me or not, but when all the Christmas is down I am so ready for simple and sleek no frill decor.  Seems like Christmas is almost always “overload” so pairing down to the basics is what I really, really long for right about now.

I love to start my cleaning with the kitchen since it seems to always have some glitter and pine needles hanging around after all the decor is removed.  To me it seems like getting all the glitter out of a room is the hardest.  I vacuum and mop several times before I think I finally achieve a “no sparkle” room.  Also my kitchen really gets a workout during Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Tons of baking, candy making and lots of big dinners and entertaining.  Even though I continually clean it, when all the decor is gone I always feel like it needs a really deep cleaning.

Now that the kitchen is clean, time to add back a little bit of decor, but really plain and simple.

I love my yellow pig and he just seems to fit my kitchen and I also love the brass tray to hold all of my day to day cooking oils and essentials.

This corner where the mixer is needs a little decor, but nice and simple here too.  A cutting board that’s easy to grab and a bottle of Port that I love to cook with.

The island needs something, but maybe just a pretty chache pot with some ivy and —

the candy scale with faux fruit.

I usually forget to show you this angle of the kitchen, but I love having more cutting boards handy and they also look really pretty stored in my antique WW11 ammo basket.

This shows you the backside of the island.  I love the pretty molding trims it has.  I like my little antique style pantry sign too.  This is one of the smallest kitchens I have ever had – (I actually had one about half this size once) but this one works perfectly for me and that huge walk in pantry makes up for lack of cabinets.

The breakfast table is on the back side of the kitchen.  You can see it in this picture.  I love those two large windows, they always fill this room with so much light.

I usually set the table with placesettings, but I thought I would just leave it simple.  Day to day there is just the two of us so this makes it really easy at meal time.  I love that the table will seat 8 if I need to, so that is always an extra bonus.

This fun candle holder was a fabulous Christmas Present.  I decided to use short candles in it with just some preserved boxwood greenery.

I love having room for my antique butter churn in the corner too and my Amish wood carved rooster is another special treasure.

I’m sure you can tell from my posts that I love to cook and I love my new kitchen.  This remodel was so much fun to see come to life and so much better than I hoped.  I couldn’t be happier.

How about you, are you ready for some paired down decor too or are you ready to do things up big?
