I try to update my makeup and add a few new items to my wardrobe every year on my birthday. This year has had so many changes – wow – We moved to a new home closer to family, tons of remodeling and a fabulous new pool in the backyard ~~~~Plus we also have two new grands, so life is fleeting by at a rapid pace. With all these changes, I really need a little sprucing up too.
I am a little late this year – my birthday was actually in August. I did get a perm and haircut, so that was new, but the makeup didn’t happen until the other day. I love it when someone with amazing skills can apply makeup to make you look a thousand times better than reality. haha.
I have learned when I find something that is flattering to buy it in multiples. I have this same blouse in black and I wear it all the time. So when they went on sale, I picked up the purple, polkadot and red ones to add to my wardrobe. I am always needing new tops.
I recently bought a new pair of black leggings, I think these are staples for all year. While I was shopping the sales racks, I couldn’t resist this pair of white slacks marked down to $19.99 and this really fun sequin sweater that was marked down to $27.50. The slacks will be fabulous all year and that sweater will be perfect for the Holiday Season.
Nothing new on the makeup front. My tried and true basic items still work for me. I am definitely not a makeup snob. Whatever works is what I use since I don’t use a lot of makeup. This is all I use every day.
My lips and skin kind of have a blue undertone, so anything with a peach tint to it makes my face come to life.
The older I get and the more wrinkles, I find any kind of foundation is too much for me. I love my tinted moisturizer. Adds a little brightness to my skin and doesn’t look heavy.
I think eyes are one of the most important features on a person, so I like to try and make mine stand out. Some good black mascara and a brown eyeliner bring my eyes out. The greatest thing I found a while back is this wonderful Gimme Brow. This stuff is amazing. It fills in the brow naturally without looking like you drew lines on your face.
The best part was getting a new makeup tutorial. I love it when a real artist does her magic and it is even better if they show you how to do your own makeup. Keeping eyeliner just on the top lid and the corner of the bottom lid opens up my eyes. Great trick I didn’t know about. The new perm and haircut make my days so much easier too. Just run a comb through it and go. My haircolor is a little lighter too so that looks fresher.
When I got home I had to take a selfie. Time for a new picture on my sidebar. The previous one was 3 years old. You can sure tell from my tan that I have been enjoying the new pool. (Do you know how hard a selfie is to do – mine were so bad I got a case of the giggles. Hard to keep a straight face.)
You guys, if you take a selfie in a place with really bright light, it just washes out all of your wrinkles. It’s magic.
This was three years ago. I’ve lost 15 lbs, but I have a few more wrinkles. Oh well, I think that just comes with the territory.
So how about you, do you try to do a little makeover each year?
