When I was looking for a rug I wanted something to simply ground the coffee table and add a little softness to the tile in the living area. I didn’t want an accent rug that would grab your attention or stand out. Something non-descript, but with a little character. That was not easy to find. I love the look of all the sisal rugs and have had them before and they were perfect in those particular spaces, but I didn’t think just a plain sisal was what this room needed. I also didn’t want this room to look more formal, so that cut out a lot of choices. I thought about a white rug since the furniture is white, but that just seemed like way too much white. Next, I do not want to totally separate this area from the dining area. It is all one room and not a huge room, so I don’t want to cut it in half and make it look even smaller. I finally decided that something that was in a similar color to the tile floors, but with a little pattern was what I was looking for.
This is what I chose and I really, really like it.
I only had one of you vote for this rug, but I loved it’s more contemporary feel and the pattern is fabulous. It gives weight to the side by the chairs and then flows out to the dining area. To me it looks great.
Now the next thing is you guys are all going to scream about the size. Yes, I have already re-ordered the 6′ x 9′ and it will be perfect. I will return this one when the new one gets here.
This adds just enough pattern to ground the seating area without making it a totally separate space from the dining area. It after all is one room and I am not trying to separate the two.
Now to figure out the mirror situation. – – -HUMMMMMMMMMM (If you missed the discussion about the mirror you can read that here. Lots of interesting ideas and input)
