How To Get That Modern Farmhouse Look

I love a mix of traditional, modern, rustic and farmhouse and that is exactly what MODERN FARMHOUSE is all about.  This is not your grandma’s farmhouse and it is not country farmhouse.  It is adding a modern twist to all your farmhouse decor.  Here are a few tips on How To Get That Modern Farmhouse Look.

I recently found a fabulous woven table runner (at my favorite consignment shop) that had to come home with me.  It reminds me of some of those wonderful crazy quilts that our grandmothers made.  This is the perfect example of how Modern Farmhouse takes inspiration from the past and interprets it for today.

Heavy rustic yarn is woven together to create a striking “crazy quilt” pattern.  The extra wide width creates a dramatic base for my table setting.    We love our farmhouse table and chairs. I’ve had them for years and use them every day.  It’s where we love to gather with family most of the time.  I’ve added woven placemats, a tin lantern, and simple finials as my centerpiece.  The gold-based glasses add a touch of modern glitz just for fun.

Marty, I think you’ve got the right idea. Instead of starting all over with new table and chairs, keep the ones you love that have been part of your home for years and just add in modern touches for an updated look. Beautiful! We did something similar to the bedroom a few years ago. Kept the same 18th-century style furniture I love but updated bedding, curtains, walls, light fixtures, art, etc. We called it a “refresh.”
