Things Don’t Always Go As Planned

I guess every makeover has a few bumps, but this is one I sure didn’t anticipate.  I’ll start off showing you something pretty.  After painting and cleaning all the counters, I started working on some vignettes.

I painted all day Friday and then cleaned all day Saturday.  It still amazes me how different this room looks.  Remember the brown paint when I started.

Sunday I had everything nice and clean and ready for hubby to switch out the brown plugs and switcches for fresh new white ones.

That is when everything went to hell in a hat-basket.  As hubby started putting in the new plugs and switches, we ran into a problem.  The GFCI plug on the right side of the range kept tripping and the whole right side wouldn’t work.  No lights, no plugs, no nothing.  This is what the kitchen soon turned into.

He had all the plugs switched, went outside to turn the breaker back on and nothing.  So take everything apart and try to track down the problem.  This all started about 1 o’clock Sunday afternoon.

Test all the wiring – –

Doesn’t every house have extension cords running everywhere to keep the phone going and the necessary lights to see.

At about 6 PM he gave up for the evening and I fixed chicken takeout and potato salad and we sat down with a glass of wine and TV trays.

The table is full of all the kitchen accessories, so no place to eat here.

I consoled myself with this side of the kitchen.  One small area next to the pantry.  At least the electric worked on this side and we could plug in the coffee pot and keep the fridge on.

One pretty Vignette to see.

Monday morning brought on more of the same.  Check and recheck the wiring, check and recheck how the plugs were all wired.  This went on until about noon. Finally he rewired the old brown GFCI that he had just taken out and everything worked like a charm.  Turned out the new GFCI I just bought was defective.  A trip to the store for a new one and everything was running perfectly.  Hubby got that installed by 2 PM.  Kitchen all clean again and now I can cook dinner.

I’ll give you  the full  tour later, but here is a peak.

Hubby gets a huge thumbs up, he fretted over this and worked so hard for 2 days.  I don’t think he wants to see another plug or switch for a while.
