Makeup For Over Fifty

I try to go every year and get refreshed on my makeup.  It seems like the older I get the more wrinkles and while I am determined to age as gracefully as possible, I think when your skin changes, so should your makeup.

I love a fresh dewey look for a more mature person rather than a made-up look.  So I went for my usual makeup lessons.  Most beauty counters will do a complete makeover for free or a very reasonable price.  I am sure we all have favorite “labels” that we love.  My favorites are Clinique and Bobbi Brown.

(Tip – since the light in most department stores is not very good, don’t buy anything and don’t judge the makeup until you can see it in natural light and at home in your own light.  That’s the only way to get a true idea of how it looks.)

I scheduled an appointment at Macy’s with Clinique and one at Dillards for Bobby Brown.  Both makeovers were nice, but the one from Clinique was my favorite.

Very soft and natural.  It just made my skin look dewey and fresh and not made up at all. I didn’t need but a couple of things right now.  A soft peachy blush and lipstick.  The blush is called “aglow” and the lipstick is “melon pop”.  Both are very sheer and very natural looking.  Just a hint of color.  Perfect for that no-makeup look.

Now you know how it goes, when you buy something you get the “gift with purchase”.  These things are usually not someting I would ever use, however I did find a few things in the “gift” that I really like.

Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator.  This stuff feels like it goes deep into my skin and it feels so good.  It dries totally dry, so your makeup won’t slide off your face and it won’t feel greasy.  It just feels soft and hydrated and those wrinkles look a little softer.  I went back and bought the regular size, that little trial size wasn’t going to last long.  (I put it with my travel makeup, perfect for a travel kit)

All About Eyes – This is great to give the eyes a fresh look.  Just a tiny bit does it and my eyes look brighter.

I have a wonderful brush cleaning and buffing system that I use and I usually just go with Dove soap.  However this little trial size cleanser felt really good and my face felt really clean.

How about you, do you try to refresh your makeup routine every year?  What are your favorite “go-to” products.
