From Simple Builder Basic to Beautiful Classic & Chic

From Simple Builder Basic to Beautiful Classic & Chic.  One of the things I loved about our house when we bought it was the fact that not a single upgrade had been done.  Our home wa 100% builder basic.   We had several areas that we wanted to upgrade, the kitchen being #1 on our priority list.  Our contractor was available just a couple of week after we moved in, so we got busy.  Time to change up a few things and make it what we wanted.  I love how our kitchen makeover turned out, one of my favorite projects.  You can see that makeover reveal here.

During that makeover, we were replacing the linoleum floors with Luxury Vinyl Planks by Nu Core.  We had some leftover, so we decided to replace the linoleum in both bathrooms and the powder room.

After the new floors, I just added a few accessories and called it good.  Clean and presentable.

I just ignored this room for the next few years until I finally decided it needed a facelift.  Nothing major, but maybe a little imagination and some love.  I saw several great transformations by adding an accent wall.  So that became my plan.  (Not quite as easy as I imagined.)

One coat of paint and if you look close you can see that it is not covering well, and the corners don’t have sharp straight lines.

Our walls are heavily textured.  That means a harder than usual painting project.

A second coat anda small brush to painstakingly paint the edges and I finally had a pretty black accent wall.

Now onto my design idea.  I wanted to add a pretty floating wood shelf above the toilet and add some art above the shelf.  I set a budget of $50.  I already owned the larger painting and found the smaller one on etsy that I could print out and frame.  I ordered a shelf from Home Depot and started putting my design plan into action.

I love how it turned out.  I dug through my stash and found some accessories for the shelf and I was finished.

I’ve been thinking fall so I decided to switch out a few accessores.  I like how they came out too.  A $1 Velvet pumpkin, a flew floral picks from Hobby Lobby and it looks like fall.

A tasseled pumpkin print hand towel was the finishing touch.  It came from the $ section at Target too.

A DIY project and a few accessories and now my Powder Room doesn’t look Builder Basic at all.  Total price -$50.78.
