I have admired Yvonne from StoneGable for ages, so I am super thrilled that she agreed to be part of my Pulling It all Together series. She is one of the most talented ladies in all of blogland, and for sure one of the most gracious. So please welcome her, Yvonne at StoneGable.
Hi, I’m Yvonne at StoneGable!
Thanks so much Marty for letting me come over to your fabulous blog and be a part of this wonderful series! I have followed Marty for years and have garnered so much decor wisdom and inspiration from her!
I am so honored to be here!!!
Today I’m sharing my dinning room because it was literally pulled together from the sub-flooring up!
We have lived at StoneGable for almost 19 years. Our home has been a haven to our family as well as others. It’s also the house where everyone gathers! It’s been used hard and well loved. And it has started to show it’s years of wear!
So, two and a half years ago we decided that we were going to take one room at a time and give each one a much needed facelift!
Our dining room was the third room we have completed. And you are seeing the
FINAL REVEAL!!!!
Is there really such thing as a FINAL reveal?
My vision for the dining room was to have an upscale area that was comfortable and approachable even thought it was on the formal side.
A room that guest would want to sit down for a meal and linger! I chose neutral tones and classic pieces and filled in with lots of fun unexpected accents!
Summer in the dining room!
Here is how the dining room looked gutted… that was over 2 years ago. We work s-l-o-w… and do most of the work ourselves!
We ripped up the old carpet. What a big mess!
The only thing that was put back into the dining room was the dining room table. Everything else was replaced.
Bobby (sweet hubby) and my sons laid new hardwood floors. Let me tell you a little secret… if you learn to lay hardwood floors yourself and get the hardwood on sale they are about the same price as carpeting!
Here’s the new flooring. We were very fortunate to find the exact same flooring that we had installed in the foyer when we built StoneGable!
After the new floors were installed Bobby and I (and when I say “Bobby and I” I mean Bobby…) painted the whole room. The walls went from a soft yellow to a wonderful neutral called “Sonnet” by Benjamin Moore and the woodwork got a new coat of Atrium White also by Benjamin Moore.
Here’s a close-up of the new chandy…SIGH!
Along with the new chandy came new head chairs… I wanted a pair of modern linen wing backs with nail-head detailing! I found these from Hooker.
What do you do with 27 year old mahogany chairs in mint condition? Well, this girl repainted them… and reupholstered them! What a big job. But it was worth it!
Here’s the chair before… without the seat ( We were also totally redoing the living room too!).
You can read about my reupholstering escapades by clicking HERE.
And here is one chair down and 7 to go!!!!
Each chair was painted, color washed, antiqued and dry brushed. To see a tutorial on this technique click HERE
I also found a beautiful old buffet and painted that too…
Here’s the before…
You can read how I painted the buffet HERE
After…
There was also a new oriental rug and lamps and a bar cart from Target….
that went from looking like this…
To this… with a little Mod Podge and paint chip samples!!!
You can see how I made it over by clicking HERE
I made the curtains, painted the curtain rods, added a black chair, planted a planter and bought a new clock (so cheap)…
I found an inexpensive bench, painted it and had it reupholstered (I was not crazy enough to try this myself!)…
And made the torn napkin wall art to go in the chippy frames on the other side of the dining room.
To see a tutorial, click HERE
Here’s a closer look… this was a super easy and fun project!!!
My favorite part of this dining room makeover was the shutters on either side of the mirror and the soup tureen lids we hung next to the shutters.
We found old chippy white shutters at one of my favorite local antique haunts and Bobby retro fit them. Then we hung soup tureen lids next to the shutter using disc brand hangers.
I love the look of the refined mirror next to the rustic shutters!
Here is the finished dining room dressed up for summer…
This room took a whole lot of pulling together… over 2 years worth and lots and lots of work!!!
