If you are like me you are already drooling at the photo of her home. It is a gorgeous “Southern” style home and just wait until you see what’s she’s done with the inside. Paula from Locksley Lane is such a lovely and gracious person, I know you are in for a treat. Her style is so liveable and every room so beautifully done, so sit back. grab something to drink and enjoy.
We have a traditional home in Charleston, that sits high on a stilted foundation with lots of porches and a “widows walk” up on the roof. A romantic myth holds that these “walks” were used for the wives of mariners, who would look for their spouses to return from the sea. This was often in vain as the sea took many of the mariners, leaving the women widows. Thankfully….. we use it to relax and marvel at what is around us 🙂
They call this area in SC, the “low country” because the land sits at water level. Hurricane season is taken very seriously and even heavy rains can cause big problems. But enough of that….we have a stroll to take. Come on up to the porch and let’s rock awhile….it’s one of our favorite things to do.
Deciding what room to show you was a little hard, because we have an open floor plan. Great for family and entertaining, but when pulling a house together it’s not as easy as it looks. Well, it wasn’t for me anyway. I adhere to the KISS theory (keep it simple silly) when it comes to decorating.
The kitchen is wide and opens right up to the family room. I used soft plantation beige paint colors to keep with the feel of the home. You can see all of my cookbooks that I love and use daily (hehehe) right off of the island above. Actually, I was cooking spaghetti sauce on the stove when I took these pictures. 🙂
I used South Carolina straw baskets and greenery above the cabinets and black accents. I’m working on the wall with the “D” on it. That initial is a holding place until I find something more suited for it.
The kitchen doesn’t have a large space for a table. The nook was my initial decorating challenge. I had to find a table to fit with pedestal legs so people could move around the benches easily. I had the cushions recovered and replaced a drum light that came with the house. I chose a new light with flowing ironwork so it would compliment the open space of the room. Plantation shutters, pillows and accessories were added. I love my little nook now.
The kitchen opens to our family room. I use shades of sea foam green to accent the house and adore pottery and ocean finds since we are close to the beach. I’m not a proclaimed decorator by any means. I keep things simple and use things that feel good and that work with the family.
Many of the decorations in our home have been found walking the beach. We are so lucky to have these treasures right at our fingertips.
If you walk from our family room out the doors under the half moon windows, you enter my second favorite spot in the house….our back porch. This is where you will find me most evenings…with a glass of wine and a good book. 🙂 Please ignore the old grill top in the back corner on the floor. I’m working on the other side of the porch and will be sharing that soon.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to stroll thru my home. I enjoyed the opportunity to share what’s been going on in our house. If you get the chance, stop by and visit me at Locksley Lane. I’d love to hear from you.
Marty – thank you bunches!!
Paula
