Pulling It All Together – Rain on a Tin Roof

Today we have Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof sharing her gorgeous living room and how she pulled it all together.  Love this space and love her style.  Grab something to drink and sit back, you are going to love this tour.

 Hi everyone!

I am Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof. Don’t you guys just love Marty? She is just such a sweetie and can the girl find a deal or what? I was seriously jealous over this chair of hers that she found at Goodwill for $15! Seriously? I can never find a great deal like that!

Over at my blog, I share DIY projects, crafts, home decor ideas and some funny and sappy stories mixed in here and there. I love a good story.

Today, I thought I would talk about the stories behind my living room.

At my old farmhouse, that I talked about here, my style was 100% shabby chic. It went with the house, and at that time I loved it.

When Grunt Labor (the husband) and I moved in together, he was definitely not the shabby chic type and we ended up with more of a modern-casual home. We even went to a big furniture chain and bought an entire new bedroom suit (I cringe thinking of it now) that we both thought we loved.

Less than a year later, we sold it.

Our current home, the beloved rancher, has been the house that has taught me what my style truly is – and how to work with what I have so I can stay on budget.

My living room contains a mix of pieces that were family heirlooms, thrift store finds, DIY projects, hand-me-downs and much more.

The gallery wall contains a mish-mash of items that I either made, found at thrift stores, or were handed down. I don’t think that the whole thing cost over $20. The antlers bring in the rustic vibe to the wall, while the racquet lends a vintage vibe. There are modern touches with the clean lines of photo frames and the navy and white striped pattern on the easy change photo display.

The buffet turned television stand just recently got its second makeover with the red. As you will see in a photo below, its previous periwinkle color just wasn’t working in the space. The buffet was originally my great aunt’s.

The bust of David was a gift from Grunt Labor for Christmas. It was pricey – I think around $50. I would have never bought it for myself – and he knew that – so he got it for me. The skinny pedestal table its on though was a hand me down that belonged to a great aunt.

The gold side table was a Target find. I stalked it from the time they had it in stores, until it went on clearance. I ended up getting it for about $40. It is perfect for moving to the side of the couch or in front of it for easy access to drinks. It’s a modern contrast to our other side table in the room that is vintage (and was free!).

The plaid blanket on the couch is another Target find that softens the leather couch and adds some rustic-ness to the space. Target is one of my go-to places for stylish decor that won’t break the bank.

I pulled pillows out of the yard sale pile to make some easy color block pillows with ribbon.

If you saw my previous home tour, I had two of those modern wingback chairs from Ikea. Grunt Labor decided he needed his man cave recliner in the living room.

Don’t tell him, but I really like having the two different chairs in the space.

I nabbed the vintage black leather chair for $30 at an estate sale. It was a steal – and so comfy. The faux sheepskin from IKEA softens the look and brings it a bit more into this century.

Real cowhide rugs are so expensive, but I have desperately wanted one for so long. I got lucky and had enough fabric left over from my DIY cowhide lampshade to make a mini cowhide rug.

The rustic crate to the left of the modern wingback doubles as a toy box. Those comfy quilts are hiding a whole lot of crazy – we all have our secrets! I found the crate for $3 at a yard sale!

The side table was given to me by my next door neighbor. At first, I was going to paint it, but I am really starting to love that vintage-y wood stain. There is another matching one downstairs that it waiting for its perfect spot.

Cotton is my favorite alternative to fresh flowers… and it lasts a lot longer than pricey flowers as well.

Thanks so much, Marty for having me as your guest today!
