Wow, this has been a whole series of trial and error to come up with new drapes for the living/dining area and for the familyroom/breakfast area. I have tried so many different colors and combinations, but I love the final outcome.
After trying all kinds of things for the living/dining area, I finally decided that the look I was going for was to simply move the familyroom/breakfast area drapes to the living room. I love the new look and it is so bright and light. Just what I wanted. You can see that whole transition here.
Then the search was on for something for the family/breakfast area. Oh my word, I tried white, beige, cream and even woven wood and then suddenly a light bulb went on. I hung this up and it is perfect.
Now there is a really fun story behind these checks.
I originally bought a round check tablecloth and then bought a long rectangular one to use to make pillows and table runner out of.
See the table runner here. I thought I was going to run out of fabric, so I ordered another rectangular tablecloth. 60 x 104 inches. Tons of fabric. Well, it turned out I didn’t need it after all.
So in the process of trying everything I could think of, suddenly the check tablecloth came to mind. I think it is perfect. Beautiful fabric and the perfect camel/beige color.
So the family/breakfast area drapes went to the living room —
and checks found their way into these areas. I love the look. These tablecloths came from Boscov’s and they cost $12.99 each. They come in several colors and sizes. The ones I got were 60 x 104. You can see them here. A super savings compared to the $100 a pair price at Country Curtains for their check drapes.

Love the checks and it gives the room a great country french flair.
These were so easy, all I had to do was hem them and they were ready to hang.
Such a soft neutral beige, I think I will be able to mix tons of colors in here for different looks.
I did a tutorial on how to hang drapes for a professional look. You can check that post here. Having them hung properly can either make or break a room, so take the time to press and hang them like the professionals do. In my tutorial I suggest 7 rings for 54 ” wide drapes, since these are 60″ I used 8. No more than 8 inches between your rings and the folds will look soft and natural, but not less than 6 or 7 or they will look too bunched together.
I am loving the new change and since it cost just a little over $100 for all four windows, I can change them out any time I get tired of them. So tell me, what are you changing up and redoing?
