I have to thank everyone that stopped by for my Home Tour yesterday. I love company and it was such a thrill to have you. The tour is still open, so if you havn’t stopped by, I hope you will.
Now for a very special treat I get to Show Off and Brag about Kelly from Talk of the House. I adore her and her blog. My daughter’s name is Kelly and they are so much alike it is almost scary. Same precious personality and same stunning style. I could just take her home and claim her as mine and you would never know that she wasn’t. I know you will love her tour and her cute personality and charm to go with it.
Hey all you wonderful readers! I’m Kelly from Talk of the House, and I am so honored that Marty thinks enough of me and our family’s home to feature it here today. I have only been blogging for a little over a year now, and I am sooooo low on the tech scale it is scary! But I do love houses and have for a very long time. That is how I came into this wonderful world of blogging. I don’t have the talent for crafting like Marty and so many of you, but I do like to accessorize a room. So let me show you around our home. (Marty told me if I didn’t talk a lot I could use more photos, and I really like photos, so I will try to be quiet.) Shhhh…
Oh, but you need to know this. We started the blueprints for our home here in Georgia from a Southern Living plan called Lakeside Cottage, but we revamped the inside considerably to meet the needs of our busy family (2 sons and a daughter.) My husband is an engineer, so he was able to draw up new plans from our wish list and the old Southern Living plan. Come on in the front door.
Now step into the foyer. (It is very small.) You’ll see where my husband used the backside of bead board to cover the walls in there. (Why are those boards and pictures looking curved here? My camera must be doing that. I promise you they are straight.) Alright I will be quiet now.
Then walk on into our family room where we do most of our hanging out. (Did you know it is very hard to be quiet when you are giving a home tour?!)
On the other side of the family room is a room we call the game room. All the kids’ video games are in there. (Good name for the room, right?) Man, I need to tell you about the organization system in there, but that would require talking. I’m not supposed to be talking a lot.
I love to do lettering (wedding invitations, chalkboards, etc.) so this chalkboard has new things written on it
frequently.
Now let’s go in the dining room. Well, it’s not really a room by itself…just part of the kitchen. At one time, it was a room by itself, but then one 4th of July my husband finally knocked down the wall between it and the kitchen like I had been asking him to do for years, and viola…it became part of the kitchen!
See? There’s the kitchen. The cabinets started out white, but then I painted them taupe. But then I got tired of the darkness, so I painted them white again after a couple of years. I like to paint. (Can you tell?) My husband built all the counter tops and the island cabinet.
Now if you will walk out the kitchen door, you will be on the porch. Sorry these are leftover photos from the 4th of July. I thought you might like seeing how the porch looked all dressed up for a holiday. Okay…I will be quiet now (but I did make it through four photos without talking!)
I made it through four whole photographs again without saying a word! (And there was a lot to tell about everything on the porch, but I was being quiet.) Let’s look at the bedrooms now. This one belongs to our sons, but it is currently in a BIG mess while I figure out what I want to do in there. (It is taking me a long time to figure it out.) It did look like this a couple of months ago.
That desk is the one and only thing I have ever purchased at the one and only yard sale I have been to. It is very old and was a bargain. I used up all my beginner’s luck on it so I haven’t been to another yard sale since then. (You needed to know all that, right?)
I just redid our daughter’s room this spring. It all started because I had to move that checked chair out of the boys’ room. It wandered down the hall and found it’s way into there.
See..there it is. Oh and that desk was an armoire in the playroom in another life, but we just added a board for a desk top. It can be removed if we need to close those doors to hide all her stuff.
Anyone need to stop for a restroom break? This is in the kids’ bath. I forgot to show you the little half bath over in the other part of the house.
Or
perhaps you would like the master bathroom better. This cabinet in there is one of my favorite antiques in
the house.
And I looove soaking in that clawfoot tub.
Now here we are at our last stop on the tour…the master bedroom. I went a little crazy with all the plaids in there.
Goodness it was hard to not talk a lot through this! (My blog isn’t called Talk of the House for nothing! :)) Thank you all for visiting my home over here at Marty’s wonderful place, and thank you wonderful Marty for inviting me to do this. It was a lot of fun! I hope you will come to visit me at my place soon. We talk about houses, travel, foods, entertaining, and a lot of other things, too. (And newbie girl here loves to get new readers!)
Hope to see you soon…
p.s. (Marty, did I do okay?)
p.p.s. I forgot to tell you all that I am a school teacher in real life. You needed to know that, right? 🙂
You did a fabulous job Kelly, I loved every minute of it.
So what did I tell you, isn’t she just the most adorable person in the world, and I think her home is gorgeous. Now if you don’t already, then I know you absolutely have to rush on over and follow her. She is just so much fun, and you will always have a great time. Talk of the House.
