When CK and I went to Calif. a couple years ago, I had a ball shopping for some fun accessories, and two things that I bought were these two spheres.
I’ve used the orange and lime with my summer pillows, and love them both, but I think a change is in order.
Out came the white spray paint. I gave both spheres and one little pedestal a quick rough up with a little bit of steel wool, then sprayed away.
When they were dry, I gave them a quick rub down wash with a little bit of walnut stain and wiped it all off immediately. I just wanted to fill in some of the cracks and to tone down the stark white a little bit. After that, I gave them a couple coats of clear gloss. They turned out gorgeous.
Here you can see how the stain toned down the stark white a little bit. I also sanded off some of the paint where it was previously distressed.
I didn’t do heavy distressing, just a little. This actually looks a little more brown, not orange in person.
I think I will use these a lot more now that they are white.
It feels like I have band new treasures and that’s always fun. Cost 0, just some spray paint I already had.
Don’t be afraid to pain ceramic things, they paint really well and it definitely creates something totally different.
